Phil Liberty to Address Lordsburg High Graduates

Phil Liberty of Silver City will speak at Lordsburg High School’s graduation on Friday May 21. A Silver City Daily Press reporter and former Western New Mexico University sports information director, he has been WNMU radio play-by-play announcer for Mustang football and basketball seasons. Liberty, Florida State University graduate in business, has hospitality and sales experience and is a small business owner. He and wife Cindy have lived in Grant County since 1989.

July Fourth Celebration at Playas Plans Announced

Playas hosts an annual Fourth of July event with the theme One People One Hope One Dream. Phelps Dodge Mining Company sponsors and invites organizations to join parades tournaments and contests while offering fundraisers such as bingo sports shows booths lemonade and bakeoffs. Volleyball to Play a Part in Railroad Mining Days

The Sun and Fun Three on Three Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held in Lordsburg on Saturday May 29 at 10 a.m. on outdoor courts near the Special Events Center. Postal Food Drive A Success In Lordsburg

The Lordsburg postal letter carriers drive collected over 1000 pounds of canned and non perishable foods Saturday. Donations were split between the Community Action Agency and the Lordsburg Christian Home. Postmaster Bob Sartar thanked residents for the generous response and noted a collection box will remain in the Post Office lobby for ongoing donations to the Community Action Agency.

Hidalgo County Commissioners say Lordsburg should share the cost of shared services. A joint session with the City Council last Friday reviewed funding for the library Senior Citizen center and ambulance services as part of the budget planning.
