A Lordsburg summer music program directed by Bandmaster Roger Brandt will begin June 6. It targets adults and students, with air concerts and parades by the senior band and aims to foster better understanding of symphonic music. Residents are urged to register.
Clark's Food Market kicks off Don McNeill Week with special prices on popular brands on Friday May 23. Owner Robert A. Clark says the grand opening response prompted ongoing Don McNeill Week events. Attending reps include George Jackson Pet Milk Co Baxter Breshears Pillsbury J C Kersey A Schilling J T Watts Swift & Co.
The music pupils of Mrs Ed gar Malott will give a recital Saturday evening May 24 at 7 30 p m at the Methodist church. The public is cordially invited.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo library shifts to summer hours starting Monday May 26. Librarian Mrs Mathilde Johnson says hours during vacation are 9 00 am to 12 00 noon.
George H. Haltom announces the DOKK ceremonial by Tasheed Temple No. 99 is postponed from Saturday evening May 31 due to unavoidable circumstances and will be rescheduled.
J S Culberson of Lordsburg leads Hidalgo County effort to raise 2000 for the New Mexico Boys Ranch expansion. A state goal of 85000 is set with plans for dormitory space infirmary and other facilities, urging local donations sent to Culberson at Lordsburg.
The 1952 Lordsburg softball season starts Monday May 26 with two five inning games at 8 and 9 p.m. on the high school diamond. Six teams compete in a straight-through schedule with four games per pair and trophies for winners. Exhibition games include the Iowa Ghosts on June 11 and the Compton Cuties on June 30.
Softball fans are invited to a Wednesday evening Gala on June 11 featuring the Iowa Ghosts. An evening of fun is planned with games and communal activities aimed at supporters and players alike.
The finals concert was held last Thursday evening in the Central school gym. A large crowd of parents and friends applauded the band, with three senior conductors honored. Refreshments were provided by the Band Parents club hosted by Mrs. A. A. Richards, Mrs. Roger Brandt, and Mrs. Burl Dunkerson.
The American Legion auxiliary will hold the Memorial Poppy sale on Saturday May 31 with Mrs Claude C Fuller as general chairman. Proceeds fund relief for veterans and veterans' children. Last year the unit aided a needy veteran's child with a tonsillectomy and provided glasses in cooperation with the county health nurse.
Dr RL Hunt of New Mexico Western College will speak at Lordsburg high school commencement tonight at 8 in the new auditorium. Miss Mary Margaret Read is valedictorian, Bill Steele salutatorian, and Hu Clyde Reese an honor student.
Lordsburg hosts an all star team on the local field with the Lordsburg Softball Association and the Lordsburg Girl Scouts handling ticket sales. Scouts head to camp the week of June 2 and seek funds for the project, urging ticket purchases from the scouts.
