Lordsburg High School will hold a baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday May 21 at 1 30 PM in the high school cafetorium. The event invites graduates, families, and staff to celebrate the class of 19.
Governor Garvey Carruthers visited Lordsburg amid rain and posters as a public meeting debated Hidalgo County s 24000 acre landfill plan managed by Driggs Corporation. Obituary for Kathryn Kitty Gale noted in Silver City with services set at Bacas Heather Funeral Chapel. The event featured officials Mitzefelt and Burkhart discussing landfill rules and a pending Senate Bill Two response.
Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce commissioned a large sign in November 1988. Larry Elsworth of Homestead Sign Shop contracted the project. The billboard would feature a map of Lordsburg and 40 advertising spaces sold for 40 dollars each. Chamber Manager Marsha Hill says she contacted Elsworth on April 14 as he prepared to leave town and he indicated he had contracted with someone.
Alma Marie Payne, 77, long resident of Lordsburg, died May 10 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. Visitation Friday 3 to 6 PM at Baca Heather Funeral Chapel. Services Saturday 10 AM, Virden Cemetery. Born Sept 19 1912 in Bushong Kansas. Survived by husband Arnold, son Gary Andersen, three daughters, a brother, fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements by Baca Heather.
Hidalgo County shuts four of five landfills on May 14 and directs trash to Animas landfill. Bins and ramps are installed at the closed sites to aid residents, with no change in dumping method beyond bin use. County officials urge patience as ramps, bins, and hauling are finalized and ask residents not to place hot coals in the bins.
Oma Olney a former Lordsburg resident died Friday May 12 in El Paso Texas. Born in Lordsburg New Mexico she belonged to the Methodist Church in Lordsburg and El Paso. Widow of Claude B Olney she is survived by son C Ben Olney El Paso daughter Claudean Robson Honolulu Hawaii brother Charlie Powers Lordsburg eight grandchildren seven great grandchildren. Services were held Monday in El Paso Texas.
Joe Schatz resigns as chair of the Hidalgo County Task Force after offering his legal expertise on land use planning. He cites no comment now but hopes a new chair understands the land use complexities. The plan aims to guide zoning amid questions about a potential nationwide landfill near Lordsburg. In memory of Kitty Gale there will be no Elks Bingo this Thursday night.
