Candidates Open Forum Set Monday May 18 1992 Lordsburg Cafetorium

An agriculture issues open forum is scheduled Monday May 18 1992 at the Lordsburg Cafetorium. Public visits begin at 6 30 pm with the forum starting at 7 pm. As of now 24 of 31 candidates have agreed to attend to share views on Hidalgo County agriculture matters. Farm Bureau and Hidalgo County Cattle Growers urge all voters to attend to learn future county and state leaders positions. No admission fee, voter registration will be available for the general election.

Governor Bruce King announces appointments to multiple state boards. Culberson of Lordsburg and Roddy of Las Cruces join the State Border Commission for three years. Durand of Albuquerque to the State Emergency Response Commission for four years. Bradley of Albuquerque to the Employment Security Department Board of Review for three years. John Brown of Artesia to the Eddy County Flood Commission.

Primary Care Grant Proposal Presented to Hidalgo County

A grant proposal for up to a million dollars per county in federal primary care grants was presented to the Hidalgo County Commission by Mike Fletcher of the Mimbres Hospital in Deming. The plan would fund doctor or physician assistant salaries along with operating and equipment costs, with a joint council from Luna and Hidalgo Counties to oversee clinics in Lordsburg and Deming. Hidalgo board members are to be appointed at a May 19 special meeting. A related note states nurse practitioner Randy Lenhardt will not renew his Hidalgo County contract, prompting another search for primary care.

Lordsburg City Council voices need for uniform utility billing rules after reports of unequal shutoffs for non payment. Mayor Pro Tem Sanders drafts a temporary policy addressing vehicle misuse and billing fairness amid public complaints.

Altuna To Head Economic Development Committee

Lordsburg Hidalgo Economic Development Committee met Monday with four members present. J R Altuna was named president amid a dispute from Ann Marie Moore. Other members listed include Pinky Kerr, Gary Corbell, and Richie Franks along with additional members. Local economic officials from Silver City and Black Range R C&D joined to aid Hidalgo County planning. The next E D C meeting is May 15 at 5 00 p m in the Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce building.
