Newly elected Rainbow Girls officers were installed Sunday with a tea to follow. Worthy Advisor Pat Cory and Worthy Associate Advisor Anna led the ceremony as Lordsburg Assembly No. in formation for the event.
The 1950 Lordsburg High School graduating class will hold commencement in the school auditorium at 8 p m on May 19 The program includes a processional Pomp and Circumstance, speaker Miss Mary Altuna and a musical set featuring Liszt and other works The valedictory will be delivered by Thelma Richins Arbhella Hi Myra Kerr and the guest speaker is Dr D Boston of New Mexico A and M College
A Liberty Bell replica will visit the Lordsburg county courthouse on Wednesday May 17 from 9 am to 1 pm. The bell will ring every 30 minutes as part of the U S Savings Bond drive. The piece arrived from France to support the drive, and the original bell passed through the area in the First World War.
E A Tucker district forest supervisor of the Gila National Forest spoke to the Lions Club about the Forest Service duties and services. He noted ten Forest Service regions nationwide and a district with headquarters in Albuquerque covering New Mexico Arizona and Mexico. He said New Mexico has five national forests spanning just over 8 million acres focused on watershed protection timber grazing and related roles.
The Buddy Poppy sale by Bataan Post 3099 VFW will be held Saturday May 13. Every penny from the drive goes to veteran welfare within the community for the relief and comfort of disabled and needy veterans their dependents or widows and orphans.
The Lordsburg school band postponed the annual Spring Band Concert to Monday evening May 15 in the high school auditorium directed by Roger Welles. The show features The Prince of Peace and runs 8 p.m. Tickets are available from band members or at the door.
Miss Myra Kerr 18 daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer L Kerr is valedictorian for Lordsburg High School's 1950 graduation. Miss Mary Altuna 47 daughter of Mr and Mrs C Altuna is salutatorian. Both seniors participated actively in school activities joining F H A and student press groups during their four years.

City police picked up a stolen Chevrolet sedan Sunday night driven by James Tate within the city limits. The vehicle, stolen at Safford Arizona, belongs to Gila Motor Co. Tate was returned to Safford after the arrest.
Federal officials Hi T. Kimbell Jr. and Cornell met with the City Council to review changes needed for Frontier Airlines service. A hard surfaced runway of 1500 feet minimum and 100 feet wide with lighting on both sides is required, with cost undetermined and a committee assessing all phases.
The 1950 Animas high school graduating class held commencement on Wednesday evening May 10 at 8 p m. Four graduates were Rosie Mae Yarbrough Toni Domingues James Lafferty and Alford Lee Caillouette. Milo J. Gale gave the invocation and benediction with Jack S Heather a Lordsburg businessman as guest speaker. Caillouette presented the class gift and Yarbrough delivered the valedictory. musical numbers followed.
Mrs. Odie Lee Haltom Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters in New Mexico visited Western Star Temple Lordsburg on Monday evening. A banquet at the Westerner cafe preceded the meeting with forty guests at a T shaped table decorated with spring flowers and sweet pea place cards. An initiatory ceremony followed.
Vearle Payne was named city attorney at the organization meeting of the recently elected city council held Monday evening May 1. Payne will be serving his second term in this post.
The Elks No. 1818 will be instituted by the State and National organizations on Saturday evening May 18 at 7 30 p m in the Central school gym. District Deputy Grand Ruler E L Harbaugh of Roswell will lead the ceremony with a 5 30 p m buffet at the P O W building for members and their wives. Charter members about 125 will receive initiation from Silver City lodge officers and Lag Cruces officers will install new officers.
K. C. Holleman announces a Cub Scout gathering at the school house on Thursday May 18. All members are asked to attend.
