The May pageant at Central gym titled May Magic drew the largest audience yet as grades one to six performed from start to finish. Miss Lucy Gass directed a hundred youngsters with Principal R V Traylor noting Mrs Thelma Ross illness, costumes were bright and many made by teachers and parents.
Robert Baisa of Lordsburg has joined the Amphibious Aces after completing LST training at Camp Bradford Norfolk and is assigned to an LST crew for active duty. The ship transports troops and heavy equipment with a bow that opens for beach landings, enabling rapid assault and unloading.
Mrs. Ignacia M. Martinez was notified by the War Department that Staff Sergeant Jacob M. Martinez earned the Air Medal. The presentation is delayed as Martinez is a prisoner of war, Jackie cannot receive the honor at this time.
Reminder that a music program is tonight at 8 o clock in the Methodist church. Selections include Tales From the Vienna Woods by Strauss Liebestraume by Liszt Narcissus by Nevin Dizzy Fingers by Benzel and Rhapsody In Blue by Gershwin arranged for two pianos Tales From Vienna Woods performed in piano quartet form per the program.
A large Lordsburg Church of Christ wedding on May 4 united Miss Mary Frances Broun and Arlo H Harvey. Bride Mary Frances Broun from Broun ranching family wore white taffeta with pink and white carnations. attendants Anna Beth Ewing Carolyn Ann Bickers Claude Allen Broun and Ford Broun. After the ceremony guests joined a luncheon at the Broun ranch before the couple begins life together at their home nearby. Claude Broun, in the Navy, had obtained leave from Brainbridge Maryland to attend. A honeymoon is planned later in the summer.
No new Hidalgo county citizens this year and only three last year. Glad I Am An American Day will be observed at City Hall Sunday May 23 at 3 o clock with a suitable program. Details to be published next week.
Mr and Mrs Wollston Murst left today for Lone Oak Texas to establish residence. Mr Hurst has worked two years for Community Public Service Co and will continue on their Lone Oak property. Mrs Hurst was Chief Operator at the Telephone Co in Lordsburg. Buy War bands and stamps today.
E L Moulton of Albuquerque, leading a major wholesale firm, told the Kiwanis Club that the OPA has performed well in price control. He warned merchants to remember they may face losses if prices drop after earlier high-buying.
OPA Administrator Chester Trowles announced ration freedom for all wa eats except beel steaks and beef roasts. The move follows halting of lend lease purchases amid reduced Army and Navy demand and storage shortages. The aim is to bring more meat to market this summer.
The OPA announced May quotas for New Mexico including 48 for new autos and 45 for bicycles, with the Rocky Mountain region holding 300 cars. District OPA rationing officials urged drivers to apply for Grade Three tires, noting Grade One tires remain scarce despite May’s 44 45 quota. Officials say New Mexico has more than 98 000 motorists.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports no net change in the average cost of living essentials from February 15 to March 16. A 0.5 percent drop in a typical family grocery bill from mid February to mid March mainly stems from cheaper fresh vegetables and seasonal declines for eggs.
Eight more vegetables were added to the point free list of processed food for May to move current limepean tile stocks to consumers in time for new supplies. The point free bargains include canned tomatoes corn asparagus beets leafy greens spinach gar.

The May 10 campaign kickoff at Hidalgo Hotel Coffee Shop drew 25 workers to support a one day drive led by Sam Gans as Finance Chairman. The Grant, Lana and Hidalgo District summer camp will run May 28 to June 1 at Glenwood with two week options and transport from Silver City, Deming and Lordsburg.
