A community event for senior citizens is scheduled for Saturday May 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Lordsburg Fire Station. Local organizers invite attendees to join activities and information booths.
John W. Losse of Federal Resources and Thomas E. Crane of Westar Resources announce a letter of intent for an operating agreement to develop Lordsburg New Mexico mining properties. Westar will fund exploration and pay holding costs with 70 30 cash flow splits for five years then 60 40, Federal gaining an equity position in Westar.
The County Commission held two meetings to shape the 1983 84 budget and collect citizen input on Revenue Sharing. The projected budget tops about 2 million with allocations for health, extension, mental health, libraries, senior services, and various county departments. The next session is set for May 17 at 7 p.m. in the commissioner's room.
Opening ceremonies are set for Friday May 6 at 5 30 p m with officers teams and coaches to arrive at 5 p m A Little League meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 17 at 7 p m at the Civic Center.
City down and county up in census figures show Lordsburg shrinking its population from 1970 to 1980 while Hidalgo County gains. Officials cite migration and birth rates as factors shaping the shift.
The Las Cruces District BLM traveling trailer Mobile One will be at the Lordsburg RV Park May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Deming KOA May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested residents may purchase the Asset Management in New Mexico brochure during these times.

The Gila National Forest invites comments on a proposal to set a personal use fuelwood cutting season from mid May to December. Public input should be sent to the Forest Supervisor's Office at 2610 N. Silver Street or to the nearest District Ranger's Office.
The Lordsburg School Board meeting scheduled for May 3 was canceled for lack of a quorum and tentatively set for May 11. On Friday May 6 at 1 p.m. the Board of Education and the director of public school finance will review the Lordsburg District Budget for 1983.
The Lions Club sponsors a broom sale to support the eyesight project and the blind at the New Mexico Industry for the Blind. The event runs Friday May 6 from noon and continues all day Saturday May 7 at Saucedos parking lot and behind Amin's parking lot.
