Broadway of America caravan marks grand transcontinental run

San Diego to Hot Springs motorcade highlighted the Broadway of America promotion with state and local officials, hotel and highway boosters, and a Lordsburg kickoff. New Mexico Governor Seligman sent a representative, praises highway progress across the South and West, and the coalition elected new officers and directors for the Broadway of America Highway Association.

Red Knolls Play Draws Large Friday Night Audience

A Friday night performance of Joan of Area at the Natural Theatre near Safford by Gila College of Safford drew many attendees. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wells, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Chase, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walters, Mrs. H. Walters, Lewis Green, and Miss Finnia Fitch, Elva Richardson, and Bertha Schofield. The students delivered a fine show with gorgeous costumes and the audience enjoyed the event.

Stars Defeat Rodeo In High-Scoring Sand Storm Game

The Lordsburg Stars beat Rodeo Sunday afternoon in a sand storm with a late surge. After a 1 0 deficit, the Stars scored 10 runs in the eighth and ninth to win as Allison pitched steady and Camacho excelled in fielding and hitting. They host Morenci next Sunday.

Mayor Home From Coast

Mayor George W. Hanner and Mrs. Hanner returned from San Francisco where he received medical treatment at Southern Pacific hospital and is reported to be much improved in health.

Tailor Shop Moves to Updated Lordsburg Location

The Lordsburg Tailor shop relocates from the Hidalgo Block to the former Union Clothing building. The remodeled site houses both the Tailor Shop and Broad way Barber Shop with new cleaning and pressing facilities. Lordeburg aims to offer superior services to Lordsburg and surrounding towns in a modern, well equipped setting.

The fourth annual motorcade will start. Many congratulatory telegrams came in during the night following R. Holt's radio address.

Bisbee Theatre Victim Of Hold Up By Masked Bandits

The Fox Theatre in Bisbee Arizona was held up by masked men Sunday. They forced the assistant manager Bow Dunagan to open the safe and phone the manager, then gagged and tied him. Mrs Dunagan alerted police and the bandits escaped as officers blocked exits. no arrests reported. Robert Dunagan, son of S M Dunagan of Animas, is noted as a Lordsburg High School graduate.

Revival Meeting Continues at Pinest Methodist Church

The revival at Pinest Methodist Church extends through Sunday. Rev. Cox and Paul Schurtz deliver messages. no service Friday. Saturday offers school and special music under Prof. Mearns. Sunday at 11 am Key and Cox discuss "Two Old Home Builders" with several members to be received.

Kiwanis Train Passes Through Lordsburg

The Kiwanis train of California Nevada Kiwanis passed through Lordsburg on a Wednesday at 1 90 PM in a solid Pullman train over the Southern Pacific. Visitors were greeted by the Chamber of Commerce camera crew. among them was Donald R. Ice district governor and business manager of Oakland public schools.

Mrs Heather Hosts Bridge Tea Afternoon

Mrs Jack Heather entertained Tuesday afternoon with a bridge party. Flowers from the garden decorated the rooms and card tables. High honors went to Mrs Dick Fedrick, with Mrs Paul Austin and Mrs Hill Graham second and third. Refreshments followed for the many attendees listed.

State road map distributed by New Mexico highway officials

The Chamber of Commerce announces the 1931 state road map shows every federal and state highway in color with road class indicated by width and dash patterns. Frank Bull of Albuquerque chairs the commission with Felipe Sanches y Baca and Peter J Rapkoch among officers. Chief Eceles directs a highway journal praised as among the nation’s best.

Lordsburg Rifle Club members engaged in a shoulder to shoulder match at the White Signal range in a Southwestern New Mexico League opener. Scores showed varied results with a lunch hosted by White Signal ladies and a planned rematch on June 15 in Burro Mountain.

Lordsburg Band Wins State Honors in New Mexico Contest

In Las Cruces on April 17 the Lordsburg high school band won the top state prize, a handsome loving cup, with Milver City scoring 62 points and Las Cruces second with 4 points. Artesia, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Hobbs and others ranked, with numerous solo and ensemble winners named by school. The National Bureau for the Advancement of Music plans engraved certificates. judges included Oscar Wagner and Charles Andrews.
