Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber Banquet Honors Citizen of the Year
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Banquet Friday March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Lordsburg High School Cafetorium. The Citizen of the Year Award will be presented. Dr Edward Walters of the University of New Mexico will speak on Energy in New Mexico. Tickets are available from the Chamber office or any director.

Plane Search Expands Over Gila Wilderness Missing Cessna 411
The Civil Air Patrol said it moved the search for six Lamar Colorado residents aboard a missing Cessna 411 to the northern Gila Wilderness. CAP coordinator Jack McGrann said FAA radar analysis suggests the plane went further north than prior search areas. About 30 aircraft from New Mexico aided Wednesday's search.

Hodges Seeks Re-Election As District Judge in New Mexico
Judge Norman Hodges announces candidacy for re-election to District Judge, Division I serving Grant Luna and Hidalgo counties. Appointed in 1963 to fill a vacancy, Hodges has been elected in 1964 1966 and 1972 and holds multiple degrees from the University of New Mexico. C E Maxwell is promoted to Master Mechanic at Phelps Dodges Hidalgo Smelter effective April 1 1978. He replaces J C Strahan who transfers to Tyrone operation. Maxwell, a 19 year veteran, began as a Copper Queen summer student in Bisbee and advanced through Tyrone and Hidalgo roles before this promotion.

Armed Robbery Reported At Circle H Store
Lordsburg police investigated an armed robbery at Circle H on the Duncan Highway reported at about 8 p.m. Tuesday March 28. A lone gunman wearing a white shirt with purple flowers and dark pants fled on foot after taking money from one register. Police estimate the suspect 21, 5 ft 8 in to 5 ft 9 in, 155 pounds, and say a car may have been nearby. Total stolen amount unknown.
