Local officials remind residents of ordinance 245 requiring licensing by March or within 30 days of age three months. Dogs must be leashed off the owner's property and running at large is prohibited despite licensing. 30 to 50 stray dogs are in Lordsburg with one recent bite.
Sheriff says a 22 year old white male, about 5 foot 11, 175 pounds, found March 20 near a rock quarry northwest of VNS after being hiking with friends. Autopsy by Jasney of Silver City. identity not released. Investigation ongoing.
Betty Carolyn Maloved also known as Betty C Williams, 28, of Lordsburg will be arraigned before Magistrate Rosie Salinas on an open murder charge Friday at 10:30 a.m. She posted an $8,000 bond and may be bound over to district court. The case stems from the March 21 shooting death of Thomas B Williams, 32, in his home. He died en route to Silver City after being taken to Hidalgo General Hospital. time of death was about 2:40 a.m. The Hidalgo County Sheriff investigated the incident and the district attorney's office handles prosecution.
Roy Hatch reports the Hidalgo County Community Youth Center is nearing completion with partial Federal funding from a Southwest Mental Health Center grant. The building at Shakespeare and East Second is donated by Ray Sanchez and will serve Hidalgo youth with pool and ping pong, a concession stand, and future dances, funded by local dinners and dances.
