A P W C club event features a well attended gathering in Lordsburg. Mrs Oma Beavers arranges decor while speakers from the B and P W club, the Lions Club and local schools share praise for community work and public relations in a festive evening with guests from Kentucky and Indiana.
A crowded El Paso luncheon featured numerous local business names and officials from banks hotels telegraph and steel firms. Attendees included G M Meter Co W J Hooten Chandler and B Wilke along with hotel managers and city leaders. The event noted the absence of Mayor due to Mason duties and discussed airport plans and Hidalgo Coffee’s move toward Safford.

The Lordsburg basketball team and Coach Robert Pierce were treated to an elaborate banquet at Hotel Hidalgo on Tuesday hosted by Nat Gammon and Ray Elms. Guests included team members Captain Edwin DeMoss and others, plus Superintendent J Cloyd Miller. Pierce praised the squad for their hard practice and success in district and state tournaments.
The Jubilee Circle gathered March 18 at the parsonage with Mrs Fryan Hall and others as hostesses. Mrs W C Mearns presided, a program on the Communion service was given, and a enchilada supper was planned for March 31 at the Church with refreshments served to members and guests.
Mrs C Dunagan and her young son have left for California to visit her mother Mrs Puckett and a sister. They expect to be away for several months.
The Jubilee Circle of the Methodist Church will serve enchiladas in the church basement on Wednesday March 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. Proceeds support church activities.
Col and Mrs W C Porterfield, Mrs Robert Boulware and Mrs Ylenson traveled from Silver City Sunday afternoon to view the attractive residence of Dr and Mrs C B Austin and the newly opened Biltmore Camp.

Mrs. Cecelia Federick reports the WPA sewing room is now running full time with eleven women employed at 40.30 dollars a month each. Several workers had needed glasses, now affordable with full time pay, and their work has improved by about a hundred percent.
After the egg hunt, residents praise homemade ice cream as a fitting treat. A tested chocolate recipe uses cream milk sugar eggs baker's chocolate vanilla and sealed milk, prepared in a double boiler, thickened, chilled, flavored and frozen for serving.
John D. Bingaman, visiting as Commissioner Revenue, lauds the legislature for constructive work and laws that will serve the public well. He notes added duties in his department but believes modern methods will aid Governor Tingley’s economic program and praises the governor for appointing capable leaders.
Mrs Helen Wilkinson and her infant daughter Virginia are guests for the rest of the month at the home of Virginia’s grandmother Mrs Anna Wilkinson.
State Public Health Laboratory report on water samples collected March 11 1937 shows No. 1 well and two other sites in Lordsburg New Mexico with negative for B Coli and no bacterial count. All three samples deemed satisfactory.
Mrs. Hazel Ellison opens a modern beauty shop in Simpson Apartments near the Biltmore Cafe. The shop features the latest equipment including a machine less permanent wave and the Duart guaranteed permanents. Until March 31 a Nutri Tone off permanent wave is offered for $2.25. Phone 170.
J. W. Gargan returns to his long-time station as Western Union manager. W. E. Baxter departs for Silver City to serve as manager until a permanent assignment is found. Mrs. Baxter and their son stay here, employed in the Community Public Service company office.
The Sadie Small Circle of the Missionary Society met at Mrs. Small Priday’s home on March 19 with Mrs. H Scofield presiding. Refreshments included sandwiches coffee ice cream cake and Easter candies for members and guests including Mesdames Bryan Hall H Scofield S M Chase W H Small Rettie Marshall George W Trimble P M McInnis W W cre F A Singer and B Mark.
Hon W O Hamilton El Paso Democratic City chairman and his wife visited over Sunday as guests of Mr and Mrs Nat Gammon. He has been re-elected and praised the presidents plan to reorganize the Court. Both pair are Lordsburg boosters.
A representative of the El Paso Gas company visited this week to arrange a regional office during the construction of the pipeline from the main line 23 miles south of Lordsburg. The office will serve as headquarters for pipeline construction at Hurley with Superintendent Forbes set to arrive soon to oversee work and secure a small office with rear entrance if possible.
The W M U of the Baptist church met at Mrs J M Jones's home last Wednesday. Present were Mesdames Sam Gass Chas Pences Frank Corbell Robert Corbell M C Moore and Ray Stevens. After a lesson from second Samuel, sandwiches cake and coffee were served.
Contractor Jack Heather begins a residence for Mrs Turney on 4th street and starts an adjoining apartment house for himself beside the Knights of Pythias Temple. The note signals a wave of new construction to house the growing population.
Our week ends with a note of harvest from prayer and praise. Easter Sunday services invite every member to attend both morning and evening with visitors welcomed. Gospel sermons at 11 00 and 17 30 featuring a Bible school playlet opening the service by minister J I Brimberry.
The regular meeting of the missionary society will be held at the Church Friday April 2 at 3 p m with Mrs. Bryan Hall as leader. Hostesses are Mrs. Elbert Jones Mrs. George P Jeffus and Mrs. P M McInnis. Everybody please be present.
W C Shellberg promoted from Lordsburg area manager to District Manager headquartered in Deport Texas covering several towns north of Port Worth. He has served as Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias and led local clubs. His wife Mrs Shellberg is popular in Lordsburg. Donald Johnson will succeed him as manager with strong expectations.
Due to illness Rev Father Richard Power is at Hotel Dieu in Las Cruces under Bishop Anthony J. Shuler. Rev Joseph Carnet assumes Power's duties, with a long history in Clifton Lordsburg Deming and Hurley. Father Carnet, briefly ill with influenza, is aided during Holy Week by Jesuit Father Joseph Hernandez from El Paso.
The El Paso Trade-Trippers Cood-Will motorcade arrives from the west Friday at noon to greet local business men at Hotel Hidalgo. The visit follows a Tuesday trip when many shops were closed due to community mourning.

After an appendicitis operation, County Clerk Eleanor F P Cochran will resume duties on April 5. During her illness her deputy Helen Martin has handled the office efficiently.
James T. Wells chief clerk in the office of General Manager Clyde Weed of the Cananea Copper Company Sonora Mexico visited his mother Mrs J L Wells on Sunday.
Ernest Short has returned home from Lordsburg hospital after a successful appendicitis operation and is expected to be fully recovered in a few days.
Mrs R. F Morris and her daughter Mary Elizabeth returned from El Paso Tuesday night after a several days stay at Hotel Cortez. C W Aice of Columbus called at the Chamber of Commerce Thursday. Rev Gamble pastor of Deming Baptist Church is in town this week conducting a B B conference at the Baptist church.
Sam Gass visited El Paso on a business trip Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Hebe Kartchner from Virden were in Lordsburg on Thursday.
Mountainview Cemetery in Lordsburg sees major upgrades funded by the WPA and the Mountainview Cemetery Association. The project, costing about 63 760 dollars with 63 542 provided by the WPA, includes improved lots, new walks, shade trees, a reinforced water tank, a large gate, and planned highway access. The association, led by president Mrs A V Hroun and others, maintains a caretaker home and a strong water supply, with ongoing efforts by local officials and project foreman R R Gale and district chief E A Rowe.
Edward S. Lewis longtime banker and city treasurer dies from an acute heart attack suffered at Port Bay ard hospital. He was born May 1881 in Hoswell New Mexico and served with the Rough Riders. Funeral at Heather Funeral Home and Mountain View Cemetery. Survivors include three children Edward Jr Emily and William. He was active in Masons Lions and the Methodist Church. Relatives include Mrs Kate Hare and Mrs Nellie Hanson.
Master W. C. Downey and Mrs. Downey returned from a delightful vacation in Los Angeles where they celebrated the anniversary of St. Patrick with family and friends.
W P Ritter brought a letter to the El Paso chamber describing the Treadway family's Africa travels. They filmed twelve lions near their car during a 2000 mile northern Rhodesia trip and saw vast game including crocodiles in the Zambezi. They plan another summer voyage and note Johannesburg climate and fruit prices.
Mr and Mrs Harold H Robinson of Yonkers New York visited here Friday while traveling to the coast. Robinson manages the William H Wise printing interests in New York City. Mrs Robinson serves with the New York Girl Scout Courier.
Miss Lela Jane Quesenberry district supervisor of the resettlement administration spent last week on official business and was a Sunday guest of Miss Lo Ree Kent. She is the daughter of G. R. Quesenberry.
The Junior class of Lordsburg High School will hold a food sale at the Community Public Service Company office next Saturday. The sale begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday March 27 with a variety of foods available.
