Hawaii on Ice comes to Lordsburg in March show

Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce presents This is Hawaii on Ice on Thursday March 31 at 7 30 p m at Lordsburg High School. The two hour Polynesian ice revue blends South Sea dances with teflon skating, featuring Pat Kaanoi Dorothy Stratton Dawn Nott and the Cavanaughs with Dancing Waters fountains and a Vegas style review in New Mexico.

Hidalgo County income taxes to top $2 billion

Hidalgo County residents are projected to pay about 2.966 million in personal income and employment taxes this year, based on IRS figures showing Hidalgo's 0.39 percent share of New Mexico's 651 million total. The nationwide tax take is expected to rise to 296 billion next year, with local gains tied to overall income growth and bracket creep.

Liberal expands paper boy and girl delivery routes

The Liberal announces regular assigned delivery routes citywide and in Glen Acres for all paper boys and girls. Residents without home delivery should call 542-3471 or visit the office to start service with the next edition.

Smalley Praises Income Tax Relief Legislation

In Santa Fe the 1977 Legislature approved a $100 million income tax relief for 1976 and 1977. Senate President Pro Tem I M Smalley called it a pattern for the years ahead and noted tax credits reduce state revenue but countered by saying spending was too high. The House killed a riverside bill. the Senate advanced a water and sanitation district bill granting developer control over street park and recreation improvements.

Hidalgo Hospital Board Eyes Dr Fernicola Staff Admission

Hidalgo General Hospital board met March 17 with trustees and staff present. They approved meetings between administrator Sara Calloway and Dr Lolitah Fernicola to explore joining the hospital medical staff. The Interstate signs issue was discussed. hospital lacks JCAH accreditation but holds state license. Commendations were sent to Hidalgo County Ambulance EMTs for on call service.

Burton Joins Animas School Board

Donny Burton was sworn in as the new Animas School Board member and officers were elected. George Jackson remains chair, Edward Elbrock is vice president, and Skip Wamel is secretary. The board adopted a $400,000 bond sale resolution for April 21, renewed lagoon use with Buddy Wamel, and approved field trips for two elementary classes to Tucson.

New Mexico Highway Commission backs Hidalgo County road project

The New Mexico Highway Commission will fund half of the 14614 dollar Goat Camp Road improvement, a 3.5 mile patching and chip seal project linking NM 338 north of Cotton City to US 80. Construction crews from Highway District 1 in Deming will perform the work. approval came at the regions meeting on March 17 in Santa Fe.

R V Traylor Honored for Education Service in Lordsburg

Retired Lordsburg educator R V Traylor was inducted into the Southwest District NEA NM Hall of Fame during a Deming convention on March 19. Traylor taught in Alto and Ruidoso before serving 33 years as Lordsburg Elementary principal and held multiple professional and civic roles.
