The Optimist Club plans a two day landsail event Saturday and Sunday on the dry lake bed west of Lordsburg. Local clubs and families are invited to watch or participate in the open races and demonstrations.

Landsail Races Weekend Events Near Lordsburg
Don Kling of the Lordsburg Optimist Club says the Landsail Races will run Saturday and Sunday at the dry lake bed west of Lordsburg with entrants from Albuquerque Clovis Columbus NM California Las Cruces and Lordsburg racing on six courses. Trophies cash prizes and a best design award will be given. Entry is 20 with Friday registration 7:00 p.m. at El Charro Cafe. Also Saturday Kids Bicycle Rodeo ages 5 to 15 with no fee and Friday sign up. Additional events include a horseshoe tournament Saturday singles four dollars and Sunday doubles ten dollars per team with prizes, plus radio remote control 4x4s and race cars tracks, film crews, and lots of food. spectators free. All events are sponsored by Lordsburg Optimist Club.

DMV Closed For Four Day Closure

Low Flying Holloman Jet Triggers Power Outage
At about 1 00 PM Sunday a fighter jet from Holloman Air Force Base reportedly flew too low near the W D Ranch north of Lordsburg and snapped several feet of a one inch power line feeding Lordsburg. The jet returned to base and Texas New Mexico Power Company crews were called. Silver City crews were dispatched to restore service before evening programs and meals.
