Friends of Capt. Tom Taggart receive word from the War Department that he was moved from the Philippines to Camp Fukuoka on Honshu in 1944 and is recovering from beri beri. Mrs. Taggart reports boxes from the Red Cross and hopeful talk of return, with news that he is among the stronger troops.
Regular meeting at W Camp hosted by Mrs Mayer with Mrs Billmeyer as hostess. Luncheon decor featured St Patrick day green and white with a large desert peon bowl. The business meeting was canceled by president Mrs Jickenna while committees handled hospital sewing chapel flowers and curation. New members welcomed. club plans magazine collection for the Men’s Day Room.
The eighteenth wedding anniversary of Capt. and Mrs. John Weitz was celebrated Friday March 9 at their home. The table featured a lace cloth with blue vases of red flowers and blue tapers. A buffet supper with salads was served to a guest list including Col. Phillips Chaplain Acree Capt. and Mrs L McKenna Capt. and Mrs red Ray Mr. and Mrs Tom layton Mr. and Mrs John Brad rd Mr. and Mrs Freeman McYhorter Mrs. Ena Walter and Mrs J P Templeton.

Lieut Billylee Smith of the 5th AAF in the Philippines swam from a life raft through falling shrapnel and toward burning gasoline to tow an enlisted man to safety after their ship was hit by Japanese bombs. The RAF communique says his actions saved many from death. He and another officer stayed aboard the sinking craft until all men were off and he gave his lifebelt to an enlisted man. The Smith family were former Lordsburg residents now in Albuquerque since about twelve years.
The Business and Professional Womens Club of Lordsburg hosted a Friday Public Relations dinner at the Womans Club. Guests enjoyed enchilada dinner, a surprise program with stunts and readings, and community singing to close. Emma Muir won a silver dollar prize donated to the Red Cross. organizers included Mrs. Emma Scofield and Mrs. Clara Kimbley with many attendees listed.
The OPA limited the 1942 auto eligibility to eight groups replacing 26. Home to work driving is no longer required for new cars. About 10,000 monthly new car applications nationwide, with February and March quotas cut to 2,000 from 3,000. Eligible groups include government workers in specified roles, physicians, farm veterinarians, nurses, ministers, armed services members, and taxi or car rental owners.
Churches in the area list weekly programs led by pastors Hale Everett Smith Grive and others. Sunday School and worship times are provided, along with youth services, prayer meetings, and Mass schedules at St Joseph.
Church of the Nazarene announces Sunday School at 9 46 AM and N Y P at 8 PM. Prayer meeting Wednesdays at 7 30 PM. All are welcome.
New Mexico farmers and farm machinery operators will use revised non-highway gasoline allotments issued on estimates by the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Tractors per hour usage tables guide allocations, with smaller initial allotments expected but records required to request more if needed.

Hall leads the Information Division in the district.

Offerings will fund the World Service benevolence goal of 200 dollars, with prior yearly amounts noted and the Crusade contribution completed. Rev. F. R. The Monday Bridge Club met with Mrs Myrl Pierce. attendees included Mesdames Hazel Chase Helen Green Floy Hudson Bertha Koff Helen Robertson Emma Scofield Jane Stiles Jane Traylor Lyle White and Misses Helen Chase Bess Johnston and the hostess.

The Office of Price Administration announces that repair shops must provide detailed invoices and maintain time records for hourly repairs to farm equipment automobiles and household appliances. Enforcements will follow if unreasonable price discrepancies are found. Most repair prices stay frozen at March 1942 levels.
Lt. Col. M. H. Cain of Deming returns to the United States after being held by Japanese forces from the fall of Bataan. He arrived in San Francisco last Friday and was welcomed by his family. He commanded Headquarters Battery of the 200th and was liberated by General MacArthur's forces.
An OPA price enforcement drive in New Mexico continues through April 1 or later. Howard Rich and A. W. Franke announced after survey of three lamp jobbers and eight retailers showing records inaccuracies. Some retailers quoted prices higher than ceiling limits, with treble damages or injunctions possible for violations.
Mr and Mrs Don Lusk drove from Silver City to meet their daughter Mrs James K Richardson of Fort Leavenworth. Don Lusk is editor of the Silver City Enterprise and New Mexico Miner and Prospector.

Marcel Mortensen of Virden announces a son Jimmie born March 14 at Lordsburg Hospital weighing 7 pounds. Everett Smith of Lordsburg reports a daughter born March 21 at Lordsburg Hospital weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces.
Department of Agriculture analysts say egg prices should be higher this year due to strong demand and production declines. January egg output fell for the first time in five years, by eight percent, mainly from a seven percent drop in farm layers.

The second quarterly allotment checks for meat, processed foods and sugar issuers are mailed from the District OPA Office. H L Galles warns firms that未 filed inventories must submit promptly to avoid loss of benefits.

Gass hosted the Baptist Missionary Society for Mission Study led by Mrs. Sidney Hale. Mrs. W. P. Hill spent Tuesday in Deming with son Chandler Hill and his wife.
War Department announces two soldiers wounded in action in Europe. 2nd Lt. Grant E. Harper of Bedrock and Pvt. Frank Varela of Lordsburg are the cited individuals. Their injuries occurred in the European theater.
Mr and Mrs W F Winters spent the past week vacationing in Guaymas Mexico with leisure time reported during their trip.
Red Cross workers urge Lordsburg and Hidalgo residents to donate now. Hidalgo county’s quota is 7 200 dollars, with collections around 4 000 dollars so far. The drive aims to raise funds promptly for relief operations.

Miss Lola Beavers received a pleasant birthday surprise Wednesday afternoon at the hospital around three o'clock from friends. Gifts and a cake came from Mew dames Poage, Wisher, Heather, Weitz, Trimble, P. M. Chase, H. B. Chase, Townsend, Green, Keithly, and Vaughn. The Women’s Society of Christian Service will hold a Silver Tea Friday April 6 at Mrs. P. M. Chase’s home. Lordsburg and Hidalgo County teachers are at a district meeting in Las Cruces today.
Postmaster Montague reports United Clothing Collection Association will direct second hand clothing from across the United States to war-devastated Europe. Mrs. George Haltom, president of the American Legion Auxiliary, is named Hidalgo county chairman and will announce updates through the Liberal columns.
Mrs Mathilde Johnson was honored at a belated birthday surprise Tuesday evening at the C C To 1 cemetery association meeting. The War Department advised Mrs. John A. Johnson that her brother Clements Ladas of the First Cavalry was killed in action February 24 in Manila. She has three other brothers in service: two in the Navy and one in the Army.
