Legion Post 30 Honors 38th Anniversary in Lordsburg

Mrs. Harold Scofield and Auxiliary members hosted a birthday ceremony for Robert Swan Post No. 30 of the American Legion in Lordsburg. A cake was cut by Mrs. Scofield and others, with remarks by post leaders and a speech on the Legion’s Paris caucus and 38 year history. High banko score and consolation awarded during social hour.

Intramural Track Meet Set For Tuesday At Lordsburg High

Coaches Bob Henning and Ralph Craig will oversee a Tuesday intramural track meet at Lordsburg High School. Thirty five candidates vied for berths, including fourteen returning lettermen. Henning expects strong form as athletes prepare for the Western High School invitational in Silver City on March 30.

A Founder's Day program by Mrs. Wesley Free bure's fifth graders at Wilson School honored the creation of the P-TA in 1997 by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearts. A five man commission led by Leslie Harvell to organize a Lordsburg Little League begins with over 75 registrations. The panel will set rules on teams limits fields and supervision while sponsors are sought. Red Cross First Aid Aims And Disaster Work

The Red Cross provides first aid training to prevent accidents and save lives. In 1955 56 about 900000 certificates were issued for courses and 336000 people were sheltered fed and aided after floods hurricanes and tornadoes. Post disaster help reached 35000 families with food clothing and furniture and home rebuilding assistance.

Adair Honored On Retirement In Lordsburg Event

The city of Lordsburg saluted William R. Adair retiring superintendent of the Rio Grande Division of the Southern Pacific Company at a Wednesday night party. Railroad officials and many citizens attended the high school auditorium program after the safety meeting. Master of ceremonies R. B. Ownby introduced performances by the Lordsburg High School Band, soloists Miss Jackie Galusha and Miss Nancy Pat Godfrey, trumpet soloist Randy Prickard, Urbano Arnelag and his daughter, and the Merry Swingers.
