Chamber Banquet to Feature Col. Suess Talk and Film

Sally Baker Named Finalist in National Merit Program

Heart Drive Total Report Reaches $278.52

Hidalgo County Heart drive chair John Jeffus announced a final total of $278.52. The Animas Valley under Mrs. Jack Gauthier and Mrs. Ethel Youngblood reported $70.60, with Beta Sigma Phi led by Mrs. Ruby Warren and Brownies and Girl Scouts aiding the Mothers March producing $207.92. Members of the American Legion and Auxiliary from Grant Sierra Luna Hidalgo Dona Ana and Catron counties meet in Silver City for the Seventh District Spring Convention on April 29 and 30. Lordsburg bypass plan tied to highway widening

Frank Bowman of the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce received a letter from the New Mexico State Highway Commission. The commission promises not to bypass Lordsburg on Interstate 10 until the area between Lordsburg and the Texas border is double or four laned, per Chief Highway Engineer D B Dixon.

Rail road Avenue to get new traffic rules and parking ban

City board approves traffic plan from a civic committee. Parking on the north side of Railroad Ave between Main and Animal Aves will be banned and no U turns allowed at Pyramid and Shakespeare intersections. A median shift east of the business district and a study of the golf course lease were also discussed.
