Collins To Be West Of American Legion Woman's Club

Seaborn Collins will be guest speaker March 19 at 8 PM in the High School Auditorium. Attending will be Mayor Wesley Freeburg, Superintendent Sherwood Ube, Chamber of Commerce head George P. Jeffus, Postmaster Montague Ray Saucedo, and American Legion leaders Meela Martinez and Jazelton. A pot-luck dinner starts 6:09 PM. sponsors include the American Legion, its Auxiliary, and Lords ne Woman's Club.

The Senior Band under Roger Brandt will present two concerts next Wednesday at 9 o clock A M. The concert is for Jun ior high school and elementary students. The public is invited.

Lost Bike Found After Poor Paint Job Near School

Lanny Williams left his bike at school last Friday and missed it until Saturday. Mrs Williams reported the theft. later Lanny, Robbie and Eddie Altuna found the bicycle west of the new swimming pool, hidden in bushes with wet paint, amid a suspected prank.

Lordsburg Man Enters Fiddlers Contest at Truth or Consequences

George Thomas of Lordsburg New Mexico enters the National All Time Fiddlers contest to occur during the Ralph Edwards Fiesta April 6 to 8 in Truth or Consequences. Contest attracts fiddlers from many states with a March 25 entry deadline and prize money expected to total several hundred dollars.

Girl Scouts Cookie Week Scheduled March 19 to 24

The weekly drive runs March 19 24 with three cookie flavors chocolate peppermint Nabisco and cream fill. All proceeds stay with local troops and funds for their benefit in Lordsburg. Distribution on Monday March 19 by J R Badger at Fashion Cleaners to leaders.

Band Parents Rummage Sale Planned This Weekend

The Band Parents will hold a rummage sale Friday and Saturday starting at 9 o clock. The event takes place in the office next to the Dairy Queen.

Halfway to Red Cross goal reported in county drive

Joe Barcenas, chairman, reports $718.48 collected so far. Lordsburg district and courthouse staff contribute, along with residences and rodeo. Virden and Animas reports pending. County quota is $1680. drive runs through the month with hope of meeting the target.

State Cattle Men To Hold Meeting In Albuquerque

Cattle growers from New Mexico and the Southwest will attend the 32nd Annual Convention of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association in Albuquerque March 25 26 and 27 with Hilton Hotel as headquarters. Sections of the program by the Beef Cattle Improvement and Junior Livestock Committees will emphasize the educational phase. F R Carpenter of Hayden Colorado will lead a discussion on production records for selecting breeding stock to improve cattle for the mountain states.

New Scout Troop Organized Under Leadership of M Howeth

A meeting held March 13 in the V F W hall organized a new Scout troop in Lordsburg. Mark B Howeth named Scout Master with C R Simpkins present as Post Commander. The group expects to start in about 10 days to two weeks with Hidalgo County Assistant District Commissioner Fred Johnson presiding. Attendees included A B Fitch Ben Spurgur from Silver City and Lordsburg participants Bob Williams and Mark Howeth.

Chavez Purchases Conder Jewelry Store

On March 1 the Conder Jewelry Store changed ownership with Mr F A Chavez of Lordsburg purchasing the business. The store remains under Mrs Ralph Sheldricks management as the Chavez Jewelry and Lapidary Shop. Chavez will do lapidary work and showcase a new spring line.

Contest for New Designs For Welcome Markers

The New Mexico State Bureau and State Highway Department sponsor a design contest for a new entrance welcome marker. Entries from art classes are invited to produce a distinctive marker for major state entry points with surrounding seating and picnic areas. A $50 prize will go to the winner.

Lordsburg High Hosts State College Day For Seniors and Juniors

Lordsburg High School held its first College Day with seniors and juniors from Lordsburg and Animas High School. Representatives from all New Mexico state colleges except Eastern attended, along with military counselors Sargent Monahan and Chief Petty Officer Malony. Mr Freeburg and Mr McAlister led the program, and students spoke with reps about plans and obligations. University of New Mexico representative James Bruening. Motion Picture Event For Bighorn Sheep Protection Group

The Bighorn Game Protective Association will meet Friday March 23 at 7 30 PM in City Hall. A film on the Hatchett mountains hunt will be shown and new officers will be elected. The group supports the Cienega San Simon recreation area and cooperates with the New Mexico Game and Fish Department. Members cleaned the recreation area on March 11 and the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce urges sportsmen to attend March 24 and join to revitalize the association.

Lordsburg Chamber Banquet Set At Legion Hall

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual banquet Friday night at 7 30 in the American Legion Hall. The Legion Auxiliary serves roast beef or fish for Lent observers. Brother of Carl Lehman Dies in Roswell

Daniel Lehman 53, brother of Carl Lehman, died unexpectedly. He is survived by his wife and three children, four sisters and three brothers. Interment was at El Paso.
