District basketball playoff championship slated for Saturday March 9 with subsequent events on March 16. Other activities include a tree beautification project at 7 p.m., a Courthouse program, a rifle shoot at Bensely Range, a rabies clinic, and a fire station event.
An informal meeting between Dr. Charles Maynard of Hidalgo Medical Clinic and Ron McArthur of Gila Regional Medical Center explored potential cooperation for a forthcoming Lordsburg primary health care facility. They emphasized cooperation to improve Hidalgo County patient care and discussed possible joint or supplemental proposals while noting a current administrative shift at Gila Regional. Lordsburg Housing Authority faces potential funds shortfall as HUD has not approved the 1984 85 budget of 98000 and April funding is uncertain. Hidalgo Medical Services will be open all day on Wednesday March 13 with regular hours, and will be closed all day on Friday March 15.
Hidalgo County plans a primary health care clinic in the Hidalgo General Hospital site to provide office space, exam rooms, x ray and a blood lab. The project seeks ambulatory surgery and specialty care over time, with Dr. Charles Maynard proposing to contract the clinic as an independent physician, while remaining options will be open to best serve county residents.
Lordsburg City Council met in regular session on March 5 to open bids for Short Park softball lighting. Scott Electric of Silver City submitted at 5 45 p m after a waived deadline dispute, accepted as low bid at 17765 with tax included or 17000 non taxable form.
Jody E. Rutland 31 died February 25 in Arlington Memorial Hospital Texas. Born January 2 1954 in Deming he lived in Arlington two years and worked at Holiday Inn as food and beverage manager. Survived by father Joe Rutland Lordsburg and brother Dean Rutland Las Cruces. mother Bobbie Rutland preceded him in death. Rosary March 1 7 to 9 p.m. Heather Capel Mass March 2 2 p.m. St Josephs Catholic Church. Burial Mt View Cemetery. New Mexico State Police served as honor guard and pallbearers.
The Chamber of Commerce and City held a special session February 28 at El Charro Restaurant with Mayor Porter Clark Smith to review a budget effective through July 1. The combined expenditure plan totals 22,666.60 with projected receipts at 30,607.74 and a remaining 11,315.74 after obligations. funds may fund state approved advertising or 50 percent matching for local events, with unspent money rolling into 1985 86 Lodgers Tax budgets. Consideration was given to canceling three billboards on Interstate 10 and reallocating the monthly lease sums of 775, while an identical smaller Separ sign would remain. Ralph Montez of HENCO presented advertising proposals. potential profits would largely favor the Chamber. With no voting quorum, the issue was tabled for March 14 at the Trail Motel Restaurant.
