Hagerman Noses Out Animas In Regional Thriller

Hagerman Bobcats rallied in the second half to beat Animas Pan- 43 47 in a regional game. Missing star Croom and with no substitutes the Hagerman five faced a tough night. John Sparks led Hagerman with 22 points, Jim Richards 22 for Animas, Joe Gomez 12, Bill Young 12. A late buzzer shot by Tom Bagwell would have tied it and sent overtime.

Heart Regional Meeting Set for Deming Conference

The 1st Southwestern Re Conference for the New Heart Association is scheduled in Deming for Saturday. The event, coordinated by Dr Herbert C. bus cmt, opens with 9 a.m. registration at the La Fonda and includes a morning program, lunch, and a moving picture on heart care. Regional representatives from multiple New Mexico cities will attend.

WSCS Ladies Plan To Have Rummage Sale

The WSCS group met Tuesday at Thelma Ross home with Ray Neher leading a Hong Kong program. They voted to hold a rummage sale on Saturday April 6 in the West building by Ace Pawn Shop on Rail Avenue. Donations to Mrs Ruby Jeanes 220 E Fourth welcomed.

Two Injured In Dust Storm Crash Near Lordsburg

Billy Lee Shephen 31 of Dallas hospitalized with head and chest injuries after his truck struck the rear of a house trailer eight miles east of Lordsburg on U S 70 80 during a dust storm. Passenger Alice Zavadil also hospitalized with minor neck injuries. Arthur Hegdal 64 of Caskis Minn and Mrs Hegdal unharmed. Shephen cited for driving too fast under conditions.

Local Guard Responds Quickly To Test Alert

All units of the New Mexico Army National Guard were given a Practice Alert last Monday evening. Battery C 2nd AW Bn SP 200th Army personnel were counted for within one hour after Captain Jesus A Estrada received notification. The alert was deemed successful with minor revisions to the local plan.

Red Rock Mission Becomes Red Rock Baptist Church

The Red Rock Mission will become a church on Sunday March 10 with Rev. Lester D. Cochran as principal speaker at the 11 oclock service. A noon dinner follows and members of the First Baptist Church of Lordsburg will dismiss early to attend the luncheon and service forming the church.

Ferguson Named Grid Coach At New College

Charles Ferguson, long time Antelope Union High football coach, is named head football coach at the new Arizona Western College in Yuma. His Wellton teams compiled 386 wins and 14 losses over seven seasons, with only one loss in the last three years and two ties in 1960. He is married to Mary Lou Brown and they have two children, Susan and Charles Jr.

Mormon Conference Plans Meetings in Safford

Two prominent LDS auxiliary leaders from Salt Lake City will attend the Mt. Graham Stake quarterly conference in Safford on March 9 and 10. Fanny Steenblik Kienitz of the Relief Society General Board and Minnie B. Sorensen of the Primary Association General Board lead the event. General sessions Sunday will be led by Stake President Boyce H. Lines. Special meetings for Relief Loci and Primary leaders are scheduled for Saturday.

Senior Band Concert Tonight at Maverick Gymnasium

The Lordsburg High School Senior Band of 61 members under Roger Brandt presents a program of popular and classical music this Friday evening at 8 o clock in Maverick Gym. Tickets cost 75 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.

Appliances Stolen In Store Burglary

Burglars broke into Lords Lumber and Builders Supply at 212 E Railways Blvd in the early hours Tuesday. merchandise valued over 1800 dollars was taken including three portable televisions radios and small appliances. Police Chief Claude Lytle Lt Rudy Lara and others investigated with state officer Joe Rutland and undersheriff Bob Lee.

First Legal Javelina Hunt In New Mexico Opens

Twenty nine javelinas were checked by Wednesday evening as the first legal New Mexico hunt opened Saturday February 2. With 98 twitters accounting for 2 percent, hunter success reaches 29.5 percent as 19 males and 10 females were taken. The hunt runs through March 10 and could exceed expectations if weekend weather allows.

State to Begin Highway Traffic Survey in Lordsburg

A State Highway Dept traffic crew starts a two week study in Lordsburg on Monday March 11 to assess current traffic facilities. It will conduct origin destination interviews at three stations from 6 AM to 10 PM on weekdays and count traffic to determine daily vehicle miles of travel.

Plans Ceramic Sale By Robert Swan Unit No 30

The Robert Swan Unit No 30 met at Mrs. Katherine Montague's home on Monday. A Fall Conference report and veterans legislation items were discussed. A ceramic sale was approved for March 15-16 at the Legion Hall with factory delivery and reasonable prices. Coffee and cookies will be served March 15-18 at the Legion Hall.
