Agricultural Outlook and Events at Chamber Meeting

The New Mexico Chamber of Commerce hosts an agricultural outlook program featuring Bobby Porter and Gordon B Hoff. Mavericks Hunt Bears in ent Finals at Las Cruces

The Mavericks face the Bears in the district finals at Las Cruces with local teams advancing to the region. Hatch plays Eunice at 7 00 and Hatch at 8 30 while Friday night games set the pace for the meet. District 10 holds a 16 8 record, 1 230 points scored and a 45 point game average.

Teachers To Meet By Evening

A regular meeting of teachers is set for Monday at 3 pm in the high school auditorium. Mrs. Allen will be in charge with Thelma Atkins as supervisor. A demonstration on how children learn will be presented by a group of Class 69m teachers from the Mh area, inviting attendance and visits.

Five Hospitalized After Early Morning Highway Crash

New Mexico State Police Sgt Joe Rutland reported a Thursday 4:30 a.m. crash on Highway 70 80, about 24 miles east of Lordsburg. The driver fell asleep and ran off the road. Five occupants were hospitalized at Hidalgo County Hospital with injuries not yet determined at noon.

Williams Named Assistant to Lordsburg Postmaster

Robert Williams received a promotion to assistant to the postmaster in Lordsburg announced by Postmaster Eugene Montague. The move took effect January 11, 1958, after he began postal work in Silver City in March 1946 and moved to Lordsburg on January 1, 1947.

Community Charities Report Filed By Harber Heather

Harber Heather, treasurer of the Community Charities, filed a report covering October 1957 to March 1 1958. The group aided 11 families fed and housed six families overnight, from 104 cars, aiding transients stranded in Lordsburg with donations from churches clubs organizations and the Salvation Army.

Two party filings occurred at city hall for the upcoming election on Tuesday in April. Harold Bishop led the Citizens mayoral bid while Alan A. Two Killed In Highway Accident near Garfield New Mexico

Two men from Garfield New Mexico died in a head on collision Monday at about 7 15 p m on a curve west of town near the new divided highway The deceased were E L Dean and Jim B Dean The Ford car driven by E L Dean collided with a Mack diesel truck owned by W F Tatum Co of Montgomery Alabama driven by James B Mason of Montgomery The truck driver said the car appeared to drift back onto the pavement after leaving the shoulder and the crash occurred as he tried to avoid them The truck suffered front wheel and axle damage leaving the scene with the other vehicle occupants killed at once

Last Tuesday was filing day for candidates seeking precinct, county, district and state offices for the May 13 primary. Collision Involves Ambulance And Truck Fatalities Reported

Heather ambulance and a truck collided two miles west while responding to a wreck. Heather and J R Budd Padgett were in hospital with head injuries. Dean brothers of Crerfield NM perished. Truck driver Aston M Gayhost of Venus TX reportedly moved from the right lane into the ambulance path.

Finances Cited in Attempted Self-Directed Injury

Lorenzo St. Denis also known as Tom Denis and Tom Richards shot himself in the temple with a small caliber revolver last Friday morning. The bullet did not enter the brain and he survives, though there is fear he may lose his sight. Despondency over financial matters is believed to have prompted the act.
