Officers Named For National Guard Unit Training Program

Joe Moore manager of the Atwood Mine office received his ion as a 2nd List in the National Reserve. Bennie Everett and Gordon Tucker named 1st Sergeant and Sergeant. Over men and 25 enlisted officers, including John Guerrero Elias Villarreal and Bob Walters, join the local unit with rifles machine guns a 2 1 2 ton truck and new uniforms for training.

Voters must be qualified electors for the district election and meet real estate ownership rules. If a wife holds an interest in property sufficient to qualify, or if the property is in the husband’s name, she may vote if otherwise qualified.

The 1948 district tourney in Las Cruces February 26 to 28 saw Lordsburg beat Monticello 52-25 to open. In the round of games Lordsburg then defeated Deming 39-27 in the second round to secure third place behind Las Cruces and Virden.

Memorial Memorial Committee Recommends Stone War Memorial

The county commission reports a memorial to war veterans will be placed in the County Courthouse yard. The present frame memorial will be torn down and a native stone monument with a bronze plaque will be constructed after Sunday’s committee meeting.

Lions entertained ladies with a Thursday night dinner hosted by Lion President Vearle Payne as master of ceremonies.
