Campaign to secure Lordsburg modern hospital begins

Betty Smith president of the Chamber of Commerce announces a hospital drive after a board decision to launch fundraising. Residents will pledge funds to buy the current hospital building and equipment for Hidalgo County and present it to Lordsburg, aiming for a 25 bed facility with room to expand.

Lions Propose Street Marking Plan At Club Luncheon

Lions Club committee led by Sam Gass Charles Foxworth and Harber Heather proposed a street name and house numbering project. About 300 street posts would mark intersections with two streets per post at 7 ft height costing 10 dollars each for a total around 3000 dollars. The plan includes numerals for house numbers with optional per block installation and nominal fees to residents to fund the effort.

Lordsburg Granted Phoenix to El Paso Air Route

The Arizona Airways Company of Phoenix won a franchise from the C A A to operate Phoenix to El Paso air service with a stop at Lordsburg using the Municipal Airport. Stops include Globe Safford Las Cruces providing connections west north and southeast and air mail service. Operation planned for this spring.

World Famous Cowboy Involved In Accident

A young un identified boy was seriously injured when a car he drove overturned east of Lordsburg while attempting to pass Floyd Whatley a famous cowboy from Crosbyton Texas. The injured youth was taken to Lordsburg Hospital and remained unconscious, while Betty Lou Goheen suffered lacerations. Whatley continued his journey to the Southwestern Livestock Show and Rodeo.

P T A Meeting Highlights Bond Talks Cub Scout Plans

Last Thursday at the high school auditorium the P T A heard guest speaker S R Suran FBI El Paso discuss parent teacher responsibility to the child. Committees were named for the coming school bond election and Cub Scout organization. The meeting voted to move to the 4th Thursday and a bake sale was planned for March 6. Attendance honors went to Harding's 6th grade with Kilgore's 5th grade in second place.

At a PTA meeting the custodian agreed to plant and care for flower beds this spring, inviting community help to supply flowers for the school grounds.
