Evening gathering at the KP building with 65 attendees featured remarks from Burke Stiles and speakers Jim Caster and George McCarty. Texas Western coach Mike Brumblelow spoke on teamwork and life lessons from football. A photo presentation followed the banquet menu of ham and sides.

Safford Chamber Members Visit Lordsburg for Highway 70 Talks

A goodwill tour brought Safford Chamber of Commerce members to Lordsburg to meet with the Lordsburg Igo Chamber of Commerce. The discussion centered on joint interest in U S Highway 70 and regional cooperation, with leaders from both communities present including mayors, executives, and business representatives.

TV translator discussion at Lordsburg meeting

Residents of Lordsburg and surrounding area are urged to attend a Chamber of Commerce meeting at City Hall at 7 30 tonight to discuss installing a television translator. The goal is clear reception on channels 3 10 and 12 within a six to ten mile radius and to offer cheaper access without high antennas or large sets.

Superintendents Meet in Santa Fe Over Legislation

Lordsburg superintendent Wesley Freeburg Deming’s Dick Lewis and Cobre’s Haskell Smith attended a Santa Fe meeting of superintendents this week to discuss school legislation before the Legislature. Mrs. Lloyd Barnes and Mrs. Edith Bradberry joined Lisa in Silver City for a few days while Lisa received medical care.

Order of Eastern Star entertains visiting officers

The visiting officers of the New Mexico Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, May Klicker from Albuquerque and Tom Carr from Las Cruces, visited Lordsburg Chapter No. 21 for a meeting on February 24. The event featured opening ceremonies, balloting, initiatory work, and remarks led by Ethel Short and Arnold Bayne with music by Ruth Bishop. Numerous out of town members attended, and the grand matron spoke on the virtue of humility.

Teachers Hear Dr Saunders On Curricular Revision

Dr Jack Saunders associate professor of education at New Mexico Western College Silver City spoke to a regional teachers group last week on Philosophy of Curricular revision. Leaders of six groups and city principals led discussions with records of each group. Mr Freeburg called the meeting very interesting and successful.

Mavericks Bow Out In District Basketball Tournament

The Lordsburg Mavericks were eliminated in the District B tournament at Las Cruces last weekend, losing 56 to 53 to third seed Reserve in the second round. Bill Barnes totaled 17 points and Steve Rivera 13 to pace the Mavericks scoring. B Veck led Animas with eight points.
