Police chief Lalo Sanchez states fireworks are illegal in New Mexico under Statute 40-18-8 which prohibits sale discharge or possession. Only non explosive items like sparklers are lawful under the statute.
Mr and Mrs Moeller and their daughter were injured when two vehicles rolled over on a descent from the Chiricahua Mountains. Border patrol assisted, hospital care given in Lordsburg, and the family later traveled with aid amid a hazardous 90 mile ride.
A Lordsburg lineup has been invited to join the Grant County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo on July 24 in Silver City. The event includes a Fourth of July parade, two night shows, a matinee, and a three day program at a new arena east of town. Featured acts include Ft. Mrs. Joe Mendoza formerly Esther Delgado assumes management of Opal's Beauty Shop. Esther, married on June 17, is a Lordsburg High School alumna. She recently worked in El Paso at the Corn Place and the Odessa Beauty Shop after completing full beauty and advanced hair styling training.
A Wright family reunion for the descendants of Parlee and David Hunt Wright, Lordsburg pioneers, was held at the American Legion Hall in Lordsburg New Mexico on Saturday June 23. About 115 guests registered. living wives of deceased Wrights were honored guests.
Mrs Moeller remains in the hospital with a blood clot on both legs while Mr Moeller recuperates. Border patrolmen changed the tire and the group reached home. Despite efforts for a picnic no one reached the area or ate lunch.
The home of Lewis Conner in Red Rock was destroyed by fire Friday midnight. The cause is undetermined but suspected to be a gas water heater. Mrs. Conner awakened her family and they escaped safely with no possessions saved. The adobe house burned due to lack of local fire fighting equipment. The family spent the night with Mrs. Conner’s parents.
On May 25 the group arrives at Tonto Natural Bridge Guest Lodge after an 850 mile journey. They describe the bridge as 183 feet high 150 feet wide 400 feet long with five acres of soil atop and a stream running through the tunnel. The site lies under the Tonto Rim in Tonto National Forest and is the largest traversing bridge known.
The Knights of Pythias will host an open public picnic at the Silver City road grounds on July 4. Barbecue bread and beans provided. other foods brought by attendees. Serving begins about noon with games and recreation available.

Lordsburg VFW Post sponsors a free street dance to celebrate Independence Day with a six piece band playing from square to rock and roll. A city lot in block one on 9th street east of Animas will be given away before midnight. If rain, the event moves to the Elks Club at the depot.
