District OPA Price Division approved higher rates for flat work and commercial laundering serving hospitals hotels and other businesses in Carlsbad. Albert Malm the district OPA accounting executive discussed the change with laundry managers and local leaders. New commercial prices set at five cents per pound over 60 pounds and a reduced rate for bundles under 50 pounds were deemed acceptable.

A letter from Richard Varrela, written from Oahu on June 14, describes his arrival at Pearl Harbor on June 1 after a seven day U S S Chilton voyage. He visited Honolulu, reports homesickness, notes the islands resemble the States, and expects to be owed somewhere on the islands.
John D. Bingaman of Albuquerque spent the week greeting a host of old friends in the city as part of his travels leaving residents noting his familiar presence and cordial reception.

Catholic church announces catechism lessons led by Rev. F. M. Grive with Mrs. Ida Aragon. Recreation and sports for boys every Saturday, Sunday Masses listed with two bilingual services and a weekday Mass at 1:30 a.m. Second Mass at 10:20 a.m. includes Spanish sermon delivery.
The Seventh and Sha church led by Rev. O L Wright lists Sunday School at 10 a m devotional service at 11 a m junior society at 5 p m and evangelistic service at 7 30 p m Midweek prayer meets every Tuesday at 7 50 p m.
Miss Vergaed Klement married Alex Catsaron of El Paso Monday morning at Holy Family Church in Deming with Rev William Alzheiner officiating. The bride wore a brocade gown with a sheer bouquet and was given away by her father A V Klement. Miss Diaxice, sister of the groom, served as maid of honor with Miss Mira Maxine Might as bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Lawrence Klement and Tebert Frerick. Guests from El Paso and Lordsburg attended the breakfast at the bride’s home and a three tier cake was served. The couple will reside in El Paso after a wedding trip and return to El Paso.
The N and T Club met Tuesday at the lime of Mrs. Addie Trimble. Attendees included Mrs. Martha Fuller, Mrs. May Green, Mrs. B. Ownby, Mrs. F. St. Poage, Mrs. Trella Rolfe, Mrs. Elizabeth Scofield, and guest Mrs. Livia Wells.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a regular meeting and installation at the Woman’s Club next Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. Mrs. Opal Hunt and Mrs. Helen Beach will be co-hostesses.

A young Lordsburg crowd gathered at the Me Halffey ranch Thursday evening to welcome Garland Dic Halffey and his new Scottish bride. Guests included Ped Brown Steven Birchfield T Jones Bennie Everett Mr and Mrs Charles Williams and Miss Mary dlessecer. Steven Birchfield gave a three tier wedding cake while Vernon Thompson provided ice cream as the group got acquainted.
Mr and Mrs J C Garcia Mr and Mrs Cassie Martinez and Lupe Peralta attended the New Mexico Dry Cleaners Convention in Albuquerque over the weekend. Meetings were at the Franciscan Hotel with about 150 members and guests at a banquet and dance Saturday night.
Mrs Sibyl Kerr hosted a Thursday 5 p m birthday party for Bobby turning six. After games guests enjoyed ice cream cake and punch. Favors included marbles for boys and bows for girls with a list of local children invited.
Aunt Anna Ownby received a pleasant surprise when her grand nephew Otis Paddock of Glendale Arizona stopped by with his wife and daughter Patsy during an extended tour. They plan further travel to Carlsbad Caverns and Montana before returning home.
Thomas E Blauvelt 1867 born Toledo Ohio died in New Mexico after 1892 relocation. Services conducted by Rev Franklin Poage at Heather Mortuary with two hymns by Sam Gass and piano by Mrs Gass. Burial at Mountainview Cemetery. Survived by widow and two children Thomas E Jr and Mrs J J Coughlin of Lordsburg.
Daniel 8 Duran of Lordsburg has passed his final exam for enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. He will begin boot camp at San Diego and receive a ten day leave after training before reporting for duty. Duran attended Lordsburg High School and won consolation on the district basketball team.
The State Budget Commission reports this week that county and city affairs are in fine condition with no issues found.
Lordsburg baseball meets Douglas Sunday at 2 20 behind the regional field. Douglas is rated the strongest border team, and locals are urged to come out and support the home squad.
Barbara Benton travels with Dr and Mrs H H Conder to Albuquerque for a two week visit.

Bertha Koff Margaret Matthaei and Moselle Messcar returned from Albuquerque after attending the state meeting of BY. Gilbert Buvens left for Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico summer session.

Monday night a Marine jeep returning from Lordsburg overturned after veering to avoid an unidentified truck on a hill, as loose gravel caused the loss of control. Thomas Mulvey suffered a fractured skull and serious injuries and was taken to William Beaumont Hospital. his condition later improved. Other injured were Sgt. Bisham with a head wound, Platoe with cuts and bruises, Sgt. Cook with a bruised chest.
In Albuquerque last week Mrs Kipp served as delegate to the T P W convention with Emma Muir Deo Kipp and William among the participants noted in the report.

Mrs Betty Smith purchased the Primp Shop from Mrs Biby and will relocate it to the B P W location at the Hollen Hotel area in the state. The move follows a month of transition with Albuquerque, Clayton, and Ruidoso trips noted during a vacation period. Gehe Nove and family were guests of her son and wife, with Roland Noee and family from Low Anlen joining in near the Nove home.
