Love R. Jones Dies in Auto Crash Near Mimbres River

Hidalgo county assessor Love R. Jones died Saturday after his car veered off a narrow road near the Gila Grande Council camp at the Cooney ranch. He was returning with Lordsburg Boy Scouts who had spent the week there when the vehicle ran off the highway and rolled into a ditch.

Lordsburg Voters to Decide Gas Franchise

At a June 17 meeting the Lordsburg city council agreed to grant a franchise to Southern Union Gas Company, pending property owner and voter approval. An election is set for July 20 at the office of W S Marsalis to decide whether the city may lay gas lines and sell gas.

Two Local Boys Open Fine Golf Course at Hawking Camp

Harold Scofield and Robert O. Harpham opened a miniature golf course at Hawking Camp in the eastern town area. Fifteen greens, daytime fees, evening play, and night lighting accompany a beautified camp with trees and desert verdure.

Death of Hidalgo official Love Jones noted in Silver City

Love Jones died suddenly from heart failure after a prior injury was misreported as a broken neck. Clyde Baker administered restoratives but death was instantaneous. Jones, renominated unopposed as Hidalgo county assessor, leaves a wife and four children. Felix Jones, a former Hidalgo sheriff, is his brother, with four additional brothers. He was a stockman near Lordsburg and once involved in a Lordsburg transfer and fuel business. His death shocked personal friends who praised his public service.

Warren Fuller Draws Noted Publication Highlight

Warren Fuller youngest son of Mr and Mrs Fuller had a drawing published in The Haver sack a Nashville Tennessee Sunday School page for boys. The artwork titled The Joke of the Month features a cartoon dialogue about a saxophone with a brief caption.

Lordsburg Boys In Camp At Fort Bliss Texas

Lordsburg youths Andres Hernandez Donald Kenzie Arvin Raycraft and David Wright are at the M. M. T. Camp at Ft. Bliss Texas this year. Hernandez stars on the HR Troop Baseball team and plays a great game. All are doing well, thriving in the camp, and enjoy good health with high morale despite quarantine.

Miss Holt Hosts Noted Artist in Bridge Evening

Miss Margaret Holt entertained a group including Mrs. Carl Grubbs famed landscape artist of Abilene Texas who paints New Mexico and Arizona peaks around Lordsburg. Mrs Grubbs, soon to reside in Lordsburg, is supported by her husband a Southwest commercial man as they work on four Grubbs paintings.

J. C. Covey of San Simon brought his wife to a local hospital the first of the week. she is suffering from pneumonia.

M. M. Williams a traveling auditor for the Texas Louisiana Power Company joined J. B. Graham in Lordsburg to assist in the annual audit Williams observed the Silver City office during the process both men have long service with the company and were in town Monday of this week for the inspection.

Schools Contribute to Piano Fund

A check of 5.72 was delivered to Bly Lovett, T. A. Treasurer, by Lordsburg Public School to pay on the High School piano. Of this amount the graduating class gave 4.04, magazine campaign 2.00, and the High School Operetta fund 1.48. Altogether in the past two years the Bethol has donated about 8.25 to the purpose.

Famous Baby Airship Visits Local Airport

The Aeronen G-2 tiny airship visited Lordsburg airport this week. A.J. Sales Manager, Ejele M. Ede wards and pilot F. Myrton Johnston praised Lordaburg hospitality and Ret. Jones staff. The ship carries little fuel and the quiet motor let conversations occur in flight. It is slated for Oakland California for the Big Air Show.

New manager Paisley named at Pickwick Shop under Pacific Greyhound

George Paisley becomes manager of the Pickwick Shop now run by the Pacific Greyhound Lines, the world’s largest motor transportation firm.
