Record flight height surpasses earlier balloon feats

Lieutenant Apollo Soucek of the U S Navy climbs to 45166 feet using oxygen tanks and an oxygen supercharger to keep the engine burning. New Dining Room Hall Planned at State College

Las Cruces Lumber Co. has the contract to build a brick and stucco dining hall at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in Las Cruces. The 69 by 39 foot hall will seat over 200 and face west with two entrances. Remodeling includes replastering redecorating and new baths plus liv ing room expansion. the women's dormitory will gain at least 56 rooms and a total project cost is about 510000.

Girl reporter recounts thrilling flight ascent on famous ship

T. E. Hart writes that his daughter, a staff reporter for the Daily, rode aloft in a refueling ship built by Hushter Brothers famed for long flights. She reportedly stayed airborne for over twenty days, claiming a new sustained flight record.

Lordsburg Man to Speak at Silver City Airport Dedication

Hon Sam W Ger chairman of the Airport Committee will give the dedication address at the Silver City airport celebration Tuesday evening. Several ships will attend including one from Kelly field. Walter Agee's son will pilot the aircraft. Mrs Jones and the secretary will travel to Silver City on the Fourth for the event.

Southern Pacific Reconstructs Lines West of Lordsburg

Southern Pacific Co begins elimination of a railroad crossing west of Lordsburg and reroutes the main line along the north side from Clifton. Preliminary stakes for an underpass have been driven, and work on the project is soon to start.

Family trip to Brownwood marred by brother's death

Mrs Kiddie Allen and Mrs Elbert Jones with their sons left Friday for Brownwood Texas to visit relatives. Mrs Jones learned late Thursday that her brother Aubrey Jordan was killed in an automobile accident on the same day en route from Dallas with his family for a visit.

Last Saturday a customer and a boy entered McEvoy Store and received a $1000 bill for change. They left without returning the change. The note asks the person to bring back the money, stating the writer has a name and number and calls the incident an oversight.

Hidalgo County Offers $2200 Yearly Nurse Aid With $700 County Match

The Commonwealth Fund grants New Mexico public health officials funds to hire nurses in seventeen counties. Hidalgo would receive 2200 from the fund and must add 700, enabling a year of service with tax revenue covering only about 13 cents per thousand of assessed value. The nurse aids schools mothers newborns and contagious disease cases with the health officer and parents’ consent. Hidalgo residents are urged to urge county commissioners to act this month.
