Observation Post Police warn about firework risks as pedestrians face danger on sidewalks near Igint Street and Gaike Road. Officials urge parental supervision for juvenile drivers and city leaders praise Little League field work and plans for parking facilities near the new field west of Woods.

Conservation officer Jewel Butler trapped a large male mountain lion in Bear Mountain near Silver City two days before June 9. The hunter had previously caught other deer killings, confirming the lion as the killer of a doe found in the area.
Charles Halvorson announced Howard Ross of Roswell appointed manager of Mountain States Telephone Co in Lordsburg effective immediately. Ross succeeds Frank Marenberg who moves to Socorro. Ross, born in Texhoma Oklahoma, has long NM ties and prior service in Roswell and El Paso with the company.
Mrs Arthur Smith missed by one clue and won 7500? the week's Who's Who jackpot rises to 45 dollars. Harold Bishop identified by 44 entrants with 20 clues. Miss Gladys Sapp conducted the drawing with two witnesses at the Liberal office.
Members gather for the 40th annual New Mexico Legion convention in Farmington starting June 25. State leaders Paul Kaiser and Preston Moore lead sessions with speakers including Calvin Horn and Ray Marshall. Memorial services precede the address of National Commander Jesus Estrada and candidates Ray Saucedo and others slated to attend.
Mrs. Adelaide Kerr and Mrs. Ena Mitchell drove to Alamogordo on Sunday June 14 for the State Convention of County Officials held June 14 to 16. Activities included a steak fry at White Sands a banquet at Rocket Motel and a tour of Holloman Air Base with three government buses. A missile launch was delayed until 2 30 p m due to weather and other factors.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce reports that business places will be closed for July 4th. This includes garages, lumber yards, and the Eagle Drug Store.
Voters approve a 395000 bond for new school buildings and 5000 for acquiring property for school grounds in the Lordsburg Municipal School District. Turnout was about one third. Bonds cannot be sold until after January 1, 1960, with planning and work to start immediately.
Three men appeared in IP court in Silver City on June 17 before Conservation Officer Virgil Jones and M. B. Lee. They faced charges of illegal possession of deer meat and pled Nolo Contendere. Each was fined 50 dollars plus 85 dollars court costs by the Silver City judge.
The New Mexico Highway Department set up temporary offices in the Strange building at Shakespeare and Second, formerly Harwood TV and Radio. Project Engineer Max Burk said the site is ready for business and they aim to complete the project by August 15.
On June 22 at 7 30 p m seven Lordsburg men began a twenty five hour Reserve Conservation school. After training they will aid in Education and Information to sportsmen and the public of New Mexico and assist in law enforcement to curb game and fish violations statewide. Virgil Jones praises Lordsburg District sportsmen and public interest in conservation.
The Welfare Department will be open on Wednesday July 1 instead of Friday July 3 a legal holiday for state offices.
