Santa Fe Chile Processors plant near Cotton City grows plans
Ground broke March 10 for a new food processing plant in Cotton City now expanded from 22,500 to over 30,000 square feet. Jerry Veck, president, says it will operate year round, process vegetables with a focus on jalapeno chiles, and ship about five million pounds the first year mainly to California. Local workers will be used as much as possible, and SBA and Western Bank of Lordsburg and Playas funded the project.

Six Cents Gas Tax Goes Into Effect July 1
New Mexico will raise gasoline tax by six cents per gallon starting July 1. The increase received approval from 66 lawmakers and Governor Bruce King with local support from Representatives Thomas D. Foy G. X. McSherry Murray Ryan and Senators Ben Altimirano and John A. Smith. Murray Ryan was the sole Republican voting for the measure.
