Renteria Services Held Here
Gildardo Rascon Renteria a, 57, passed away at his home in Lordsburg on June 15. Born in Valedon New Mexico on April 18, 1925 he moved to Lordsburg in 1932 and had lived there since. He was employed by the City of Lordsburg for many years. He is survived by his wife Carmen Esparsa Renteria of Lordsburg, one son Jacob Renteria, two daughters Rita Esparsa and Rebecca Aquino, two brothers Alfonso Renteria and Rudy Renteria, four sisters Alversa Pimento, Yolanda Renteria, Virginia Cota, Margarita Renteria, and six grandchildren. Rosary services were held at the Heather Chapel on June 17 at 7:00 p.m. Burial was at Shakespeare Cemetery with pallbearers Rudy Cota, Alfonso Renteria, John Aquino, Santiago Tarango, Tony Rascon, and Crispin Marquez.

Sign request to advertise Highway 70 in Graham County
Graham County Arizona seeks permission from Hidalgo County Commissioners to erect a sign on fairground property facing I 10 promoting Highway 70 as the scenic route to Phoenix and points west. County officials note interest from Grant and Catron Counties in New Mexico and mention sign spacing limits. The board tabled the item for further input. Also, road supervisor J W McCarty discussed evaluating dump trucks via the State Bid Contract.

County board lines up bids and contracts for town projects
The board approved bidding for a new dump truck with no trade in and authorized selling the current grader to Otero County for 20000. A 7600 dump truck sale was proposed. Hidalgo EMS coordinator praised the unit as a model for the region as Luna and Sierra County units come online. Contracts for library exterior painting and vault renovation were awarded to low bidders Oronco and Joachim Lopez, with inspection by Burton Leyendecker and Leyendecker. Subdivisions at Sierra Sunset and Rancho Cielo were reviewed, with plat acceptance and road changes.

Jack Murray Passes Away At Age 67
Jack Edward Murray age 67 of Fillmore Utah and formerly Lordsburg died June 17 at home after a short illness. He was born January 8 1915 in Des Moines New Mexico and married Phyllis Moore on May 29 1936 in Lordsburg. He ran a laundry in Lordsburg from 1948 to 1975 and drove for TIME DC Freight Lines 21 years retiring 1974. He lived in Lordsburg 29 years before moving to Fillmore in 1977. Survived by wife Phyllis, daughter Mary Moore, son James A Murray, four grandchildren, brothers Wayne of Raton and James of Elkhart Kansas. Funeral held June 19 at Flowell LDS Ward Chapel with burial in Fillmore City Cemetery.

Lordsburg Optimist Club outlines a four day Fourth of July festival from Friday through Sunday with eight Mushball teams in an 18 game tourney, Seven Mile Run at 7 am, swimming meet, volleyball, plus a 1300 dollar fireworks display. Booths planned, contact Memo Rodriguez for setup, safety rules prohibit alcohol around the pool and park.
