The mayor proclaims June 28 as Patriots Pledge of Faith Day to mark the 150th anniversary of Independence and asks all business to suspend from 11:00 to 11:59 a.m. Citizens are to gather at the Ster Theatre for exercises. Attest by Clerk Roy K. McDonald.
A Monday gathering at Star Theatre convenes with Chairman A W Meringstar presiding. A one minute toll of every bell begins at 11:41:11 led by the Christian church bell, followed by a brief address, pledge, song America, and benediction by T A Phillips.
Meeting led by the chairman to discuss Sesqui Centennial Independence Day. Patriotic song and reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mrs. V. F. Lyday. Addresses by T. A. Phillips and Rev. C. V. Williams. Star Spangled Banner. General committee listed with Morningstar, Austin, Fuller, Phillips, Williams, Holt.
A. Merrell and J. F. Moffell praised the new Gila river bridge near Lordsburg after delivering the first truck load of fine Virden produce. They commended the New Mexico highway department and county commissioners Ownby, Houlihan, and Stewart for fair work benefiting the people.
Walter McGrath returned from Los Angeles where he attended Harvard Military School graduation exercises and earned firel honors as valedictorian of a class of 64. He is an OAC lieutenant with a top term average, captained both football and baseball, and played tennis and basketball. Lordsburg honors this fine young man.
Mrs. Kart J. Mohler has traveled to Santa Barbara with her two babies to enjoy the hospitality of the Greenway home, accepting an invitation from Mrs. John Greenway. Mrs. Downey was informed of the plans this week.
Theatre listings for Manhattan show a week of features including Richard Dix with Saturday heapler acts and Winking Ideas and comedy. Sunday venue Hearth of Oak offers Pox feature. Monday presents Watch Your Wife. Tuesday and Wednesday showcase Scarlet Saint with Mary Astor and Loyd Hughes.
Ralph Smith buys a stake in the Weiler favored Railroad Club and takes possession Monday morning. The club is described as the best railroad club along the border and Weiler is praised as a sure live member expected to stay.
Miss Margaret Holt arrives home from Olivet College Michigan where she will be a junior next year stopping en route to visit sisters Mrs W A Hunt in Chicago and Mrs Sam Fulton in Santa Fe
Scott Alto Company's till was robbed Monday night. Marshall Conner presented sufficient evidence to bind G. M. Elrod over for the next term of the district court in the amount of 1000 dollars.
