Big Southwest New Mexico stock meet fundraiser list grows

Donors from Lordsburg Hidalgo county and beyond back the Fair Grounds project. The catalogue and prospectus for the Southwest New Mexico stock show include contributions from City of Lordsburg Hidalgo county Hidalgo Hotel Mayor Short Liberal Up to Date Grocery and many local firms. Funds are needed to complete the project with checks payable to Claude Sanders or Harlan Black.

PENSATION TAX MAN VISITS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

S Carter, director of the compensation Tax Division of the Bureau of Revenue, will visit the Chamber of Commerce on Friday and Saturday June 23 and 24. He will answer inquiries from individuals and business representatives about the compensation tax enacted by the last Legislature. Citizens are urged to attend for guidance on this tax measure.

A horse trailer designed and built by W. H. Murphy in the Lordsburg Wrecking Company's shop for Claude Sanders was completed Saturday. The unit is described as practical and substantial and reflects pride in local manufacturing.

The Curetons’ remodeled ranch near Lordsburg Silver City is pebble dashed white with seven rooms and a sun parlor. Contractor Jack Heather completed the project adding modern city comforts, electric and water systems, and an Electrolux ice and water supply. The Burro mountains grove hosts fruit trees and ideal picnic gatherings, with hundred guests at the last Sunday ranch event.

Judge Hay Has Busy Wednesday in Lordsburg Court

District Judge George W. Hay District Attorney Joseph W. Hodges and Court Reporter OP Fowler presided over a crowded Lordsburg docket. The highlight was the preliminary hearing of Nicky Martinez with a $2500 bond bound over to October term. Southern Pacific officer Earl Herschler presented four young Mexican lads and guardians on box car theft complaints. after a harsh reprimand the youths were paroled. The rest of the docket consisted of civil cases either settled or set for trial. The court adjourned on July 6.

Miss Lucy Gass, one of four students at Mary Hardin-Baylor College Belton Texas, made the Dean's honor roll for spring semester and was among 12 students with an A grade average. She will be a sophomore next session and is remembered as an honor graduate from Lordsburg High.

A regional mining convention in Silver City drew officers from the Chino Nevada Consolidated Mining Co and many district owners. W D Hall county treasurer Mrs Emily Mackay county treasurer Grant county Mrs Eleanor F Cochran county clerk and Ben Cochran traveled in the Cochran car to the New Mexico County Officials Convention at Raton the week start. En route the Lordsburg party visited Eagle Nest Lake for pre convention entertainment. The convention featured a practical explanation of the new registration law. Afterward the party returned home except Mr and Mrs Cochran who toured Colorado Springs and Walsenburg before returning Friday night via the Coronado Trail.
