North Carolina based Symphonic Choir, touring as ambassadors of music, performed a vocal program without instruments to a large Lordsburg audience. Director Louis Sidney Bullock and his wife accompanied the group, which visited the Chamber of Commerce before departing early Tuesday.
Notice outlines the Selective Training and Service Act requirements for all male U.S. citizens and aliens aged twenty one to register between October 1940 and July 1 1941. Registration occurs from 9 p.m. to midnight at City Hall in Hidalgo and other locations in New Mexico.

Maynard Pendleton celebrated his second birthday at home on Main Street. The party included a cake decorated in blue and was hosted by his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Pendleton.
Joseph Byers Foster born in Beloit Wisconsin December 23 186% died June 14 1941 at his Lordsburg New Mexico home. Survived by wife Elizabeth C Foster and daughter Mrs Phillip Dickey Puyallup Washington, plus daughter Mrs Esther Phinn and son Foster Phinn. Foster led the Bonney Mine with lasting impact on the southwest mining industry and adopted city Lordsburg. The 1935 sale to Oklahoma capitalists sustained his property and support for humanity amid declining health.
Curren at CTrusT Corner Fifth and Pyramid Streets lists Percy F. Krewson as minister with Bible School at 10:00 p m. Church services at 11:00 a m and evening service at 8 p m led by the Juniors. Prayer meeting Wednesday evening at 8.
Joseph B. Foster, long on the invalid list, died Saturday evening at 8 30. Funeral held Monday at Heather Funeral Home with Rev Frank Basile officiating. Burial service conducted by Knights of Pythias honoring a 54 year member. Active pallbearers listed. numerous honorary pallbearers named.
Ross Howard of the McNutt Oilers broke his left leg sliding into home during a Friday night softball game. He was taken to DeMoss Hospital where the fracture was reduced and he is resting at home and expected to return to his job soon.
L. P. Moodworth, executive secretary, introduced a regional rack to Lordsburg highlighting 43 towns across eastern Arizona southern New Mexico and western Texas uniting under the motto One for all all for one. The message urges joint effort to attract tourists and prove the southwest offers unique advantages.
Monday evening June 23 a program will be given at the Baptist church by a group of children from the Children's Home at Portales. The public is invited to attend.
Funeral services were held in Alamogordo for Mrs Kathryn G Woodside wife of Frank Woodside Southern Pacific agent and former Separ resident. She taught in New Mexico and her death marks a fourth family loss this year. She leaves husband Gilbert son in Lubbock sister Frieda McKim and siblings in South Dakota. The family is well known in Lordsburg where the son studied.
A newspaper mislayout mixed a judge appointment headline with a cattle growers meeting report. The Liberal notes readers saw an error but acknowledges the resulting free publicity as many discussed the confusion Friday.
Dr and Mrs H M Hawthorne report the loss of their dog Me Nabb in Lordsburg near the Smith Pon apartments. The pet vanished in under ten minutes Thursday and died quickly despite medical efforts, triggering concern among new town residents.
Julius Ceasar Brock, a southwest figure and former Indian fighter, reports grasshoppers have destroyed his land except bitterweed which they avoid. He asks the government to fund a project to supply food for starving grasshoppers and to replace bitterweed with something edible for the insects. He warns that without action his grasshoppers may die.
The wedding of Miss Dora Eden Heather to Walter Mullins will be held at the Methodist church at 8 0 a m on Sunday June 22. No invitations will be issued but all friends of the family are invited to attend.
A group of Rainbow Girls and mothers traveled to El Paso on Friday to attend the Grand Assembly of the Rainbow in Texas. Mrs Willis Lacy served as Mother Advisor and chaperoned Misses Anna Belle Corbell Dorothy Mellnnis Anna Beth Ewing Pearl Scott Betty Reynolds Mary Francis Broun Mary Jane Ake Bridell Lacy Venita Bright and Rebecca Bray. Mrs EF Bray accompanied the group.
When Col. C G Sage left three months ago for Coast Artillery School the regiment had 59 officers and 836 enlisted. On his return the Coast Artillery Regiment of the New Mexico National Guard reports 72 officers and 1656 enlisted men stationed at Fort Bliss.
Lois Ann Richards turned one on June 16 with a celebration at Animas. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Richards of Douglas and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dunagan and Mr. and Mrs. I B Richards of Rodeo.
Sherwood Culberson escaped serious injury when a windmill part fell about twenty feet and struck his forehead causing a severe gash that needed several stitches at Lordsburg Hospital Monday. He wore a hat that helped prevent a fatal blow. He will attend the Cattlemen's convention Saturday.
About 23 years ago FE M Brickley served as a First Lieutenant in the Air Service with C E 8 Q M C He retired and now appearing in the patriotic film Land of Liberty he wore an old uniform and cap freshly renovated looking like new, a perfect fit and neat as a tailor could make.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Baxter and Mrs B 8 Stout of Montrose Colorado visited Lordsburg Wednesday to see Kay Baxter their son. Mrs Stout stayed a few days at the G P Jeffus home while the Baxters toured Silver City. Mr Baxter formerly headed the Western Union here.
New Mexico Miners and Prospects Association president Frank McDonough visited Lordsburg to discuss forming a local chapter to organize mining interests statewide. Albert Mareek was named to lead expansion, with plans for a Lordsburg unit under Marcek. The association aims to aid small miners and prospector training, with a convention planned in Albuquerque next year.
The Selective Service urges all men who reached 21 since October 14 to register on July 1 from 7 am to 9 pm. Registration is by county boards, with added registry points in some counties. Deferments possible for students in related national defense work. local board is Geo. P. Jeffas Nat Gammon Rh. M. Reynolda with clerk Mrs. Lloyd Gambrel.
The eighth annual Silver City rodeo runs July 2 to 4 with arena director Forrest Delk, a five year veteran rider, in charge. Grant County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event with combined cash prizes totaling 2 100. AAA rules apply and a three night Mexican bell fight under flood lights may be added. Over 100 contestants have entered. a daily parade will highlight the show.
Coroner's Jury report notes Walter H. Truitt, 28, died June 15 at the Banner Mine 1100 foot level after drilling near a missed hole. Sheriff Allen's office and Judge C W Marsalis conducted the inquiry. Funeral conducted at Duncan Baptist church with Truitt survived by his wife and young daughter.
Mrs Creighton Bowman and Miss Katherine Messecar returned Tuesday evening from a two weeks visit with Bowmans mother in Salt Lake City. They chose the trip to attend the University of Utah graduation ceremonies. Grant and Frank Bowman were in the class of '41.
Charles Bella of Lordsburg and Miss Mildred Dengg of Latrove were married last Tuesday evening at the home of S. H. Gass. Judge Marsalis officiated with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Joy as attendants.
New Mexico Cattle Growers Association opens its annual convention in Lordsburg High School auditorium at 9 am Saturday with remarks by President Tom Clayton and speeches by state and regional officials on cattle industry topics. An evening grand ball and a Friday barbecue at the fairgrounds are planned.
Judge A. W. Marshall and John O Leary stopped in Lordaburg on Saturday en route to Bilver City for the funeral of Mrs. Percy Wilson. Attorney Alton Warren was the only lawyer present. Marshall said Hidalgo County will have a schedule covering all legal business.
Don Kerr of Morenci resigns from local electrical work to take a well paid job with the Shell Oil Company in Long Beach California. The report notes he will continue electrical work in the new role.
Miss Marjorie Miller and Richard Miller, grandchildren of Mrs. K L Brown, are spending the week with Mrs Brown and with their uncle Mr and Mrs C L Buddy Brown. Marjorie is a Tucson High School graduate and will attend the University of Arizona this coming year.
Mr and Mrs Jack Evans of Clifton visited on Tuesday en route to Medina Texas where Jack Evans father died Monday. Marion C Evans was son in law of Mrs Laura Leaton of Lordsburg.
Lordsburg will air a Good Neighbor program Sunday night from 8 30 to 9 with Station KROD and the Paso Junior Chamber of Commerce. The broadcast will feature musical numbers by Thelma Ross Harry Rosenstein Jimmie Chavez and James Sumner with Sumner as accompanist and a brief Lordsburg progress sketch by Tom J Mayfield.
Mr and Mrs E B Allen hosted several visitors over the weekend. Sister and brother in law Mrs and Mr Bert McBrids from Mercury Texas traveled with their guests Homer Thomas from Brownwood. Sister Mrs EM8 and Margery remained as did Eugene and another from Denver for the long weekend.
Mr and Mrs Laurence host relatives including his mother father sister and children as guests at a social gathering.
