War Production Board and offices warn rationing remains in effect until supply improves. District officials deny any expected civilian shoe increase this year. OPA reports inventories at 0.53 million pairs for 1943.
The piece notes 50 pounds of sugar cost 15 dollars in wartime and that today many items can be bought for that amount. It cites statistics: Revolutionary scarcity reduced purchasing power to 33 cents, Civil War to 44 cents, and World War I to 40 cents. District OPA officials say price control works.
OPA officials credit last year’s record by Victory Gardeners and Home Canners for progress in eliminating shortages. With food needs up due to military overseas efforts, the push aims for 22 million victory gardens and a larger home canning effort this year.
New Mexico food stores now show 68.4 percent full compliance with price ceiling posting and other OPA rules. The figure, higher than the district average, comes after a second survey by the OPA price division.
H. L. Galles of the district OPA rationing executive cautions that if tire numbers do not correspond with tire inspection records, passenger car owners may not receive a replacement tire and likely lose eligibility for a new basic A gasoline ration. Changes require War Price and Rationing Board approval and proper notations on tire records.
Lists stamp validity across foods and commodities during wartime rationing. Details include Meats Fats Red stamps A8–V8 in Book Four good. Processed Foods Blue stamps A8–V8. Sugar stamps 30 and 3 each five pounds. Stamp 32 five pounds valid June 16 onward. Stamp 40 five pounds for a home coming through February 28, 1945. Shoe Airplane stamps 1–2 Book Three. Gasoline Series 11 in Book A three gallons through June 21. Inspections B and C certificate holders not required except for replacements.
Chain stores across the state display window dioramas and price panels to compare food costs during World War I. Local shoppers view charts showing staples like flour meat and sugar with note on wartime shortages and price controls.
Volunteer corps of price panel assistants are being recruited in each county. Persons who can assist in this work about one day a month should contact their local War Price and Rationing Boards.
OPA sets price ceilings for all used passenger cars effective July 10 1944 with January 1944 price levels by model and body type across 23 makes and about 6 000 models produced from 1937 to 1942. Buyers and sellers must file transfer certificates with the War Price and Rationing Board after a sale.

The Office of Price Administration announces ration points are required only for steaks and roasts from higher quality beef cattle choice, good, commercial and utility grades. Steaks and roasts from bulls stags cutters and canners grades may be sold without points, including meat sold from farms.
D L Mullendore of the Production Credit Corporation of Wichita argues marketing cows now is best. Cows can be placed in slaughter condition with less grain and price risk, aiding business during high beef prices and preventing market gluts amid a potential downturn.
Feed stocks for the end of the year likely reach the lowest level since 1937, with May 1 hay carryover at 10.5 million tons, 23 percent below last year and 6 percent under the 1933-42 average. 1944 production prospects look better than earlier.
More than 1 million tons of American food has gone to the Allies since lend lease food reached Great Britain three years ago. Shipments under lend lease are expected to total about 11 percent of estimated U S supplies with four percent to the United Kingdom and other British claimants and three and a half percent to Russia. Four percent has been allocated for emergency requirements for liberated areas and other special purposes.
Charles Winterholer of Lordsburg Bakery died in Long Beach California on June 3 from a heart attack after arriving there to take a bakery job. His wife is staying with her nephew Edward Hull in Visalia California.
Fast thinking and quick action by Pat Carley allowed him to restrain a vicious fifty pound dog. He wedged two fingers under the dog's collar, lifted the animal to prevent ground contact, then slammed and pinned it until he could choke it into unconsciousness.
All women are urged to bring pressure cookers to the Woman’s Club on Friday June 30 for gauge testing. The building will be open 1 to 3 p m for tests, followed by a 3:30 p m demonstration and discussion by Doris Mardis on proper use and care. An open forum on canning problems will follow.

Clyde 8 Young of Zavalla Texas completed basic training at the Submarine School New London Connecticut and will be eligible for the twin dolphin insignia after further submarine experience. He is a 1935 Monahans High graduate who served two years in the Navy including time on submarine chasers.
Dr and Mrs R E Buvens depart Saturday for Albuquerque to visit his brother Howard Buvens and wife. From Albuquerque they travel to Santa Fe where the Doctor will attend the Dental Board meeting and visit friends.

About twenty five members and guests attended the Thursday night installation of new officers for the American Legion Auxiliary in Lordsburg. Rev Franklin Poage led a prayer service and hymns were sung before the ceremony. New officers include President Ohielee Halton and Secretary Emmaline Richards. A poppy sale raised 195.66 with donations from multiple clubs and individuals, and the Clubmobile project received broad support from local organizations. Mrs Carson organized the drive, with 1400 poppies sold and large contributions from Delbert Wilkinson and June Redford. The evening closed with refreshments and a brief business meeting. Mrs Alvin Oberlander visited from Alliance Nebraska, awaiting her husband’s deployment while here.

Mr. and Mrs. Worner Rountree hosted guests Monday and Tuesday from Mordians Texas and relatives from Mon with Billy Ernest Spears visiting. They left Tuesday to a two week vacation at Willow Creek and plan to join them on Sunday.
Judge Marshall held court twice this week to consider if occupational diseases are compensable under the current act. Banner Mining Co faced an employee plaintiff with L P McHalffey defending for the company and E Forrest Sanders prosecuting. The judge noted the lease would require time before a decision and the session included district attorney J W Hodges and court reporter Mary Steinberger. A few minor cases also came up on Wednesday.
Mrs. C. Ti. Allet'n hosted a Wednesday Card Club luncheon at one o’clock. Honor guest was Mrs. James Goggin of El Paso. other guests included Mrs. Thelma Ross and Mrs. Tom Clayton. Members present were Mrs. B. Allen, Mrs. R. Blevins, Mrs. Nat Gammon, Mrs. Frank Winters, and the host. Mrs. S. E. Allen had the high score and Mrs. Frank Winters the low. Mrs. Goggin received a guest prize.
Mire Lea Rae Richins daughter of Mr and Mrs George Richins left Tuesday morning for Albuquerque to train for thirty months at St Joseph Hospital Upon completion she will be a Registered Nurse and may select her service branch.
The local USO, housed in the Knights of Pythian building, ceases operations as war moves activities from location to location. The Lordsburg area council thanks residents for support and notes it remains an advisory body and will return when USO is restored.
Mrs Mamie Brown of Lordsburg died June 10 1944 at her home. She moved to Lordsburg about ten years ago from Atlanta Georgia and was active in church life. She leaves her husband Hf A Brown three daughters Myrtle Pauline and Ruth all of El Paso three sons Grady Gibson Dallas Edwin Gibson in the Seabees in Hawaii Robert Lee Miller in the Navy Pacific and many grandchildren and friends.
Claude A Fish born January 30 1881 in Bedford Indiana lived there until age ninety then moved to nix Arizona in November 1940 he died at his home in Lordsburg unclear date survived by three daughters Mrs Dick Rich Phoenix Mrs James Gleason Austin and Mrs David Warren Jr Ohio and widow Mrs C A re He was a Baptist church member for six years.
