Former Lordsburg Boy Helps Arrest Jap in California

The Los Angeles Examiner story features William Leon Bruce and his daughter Jeanie as Bruce aided in identifying Tomoya Kawakita, a California-born Japanese former POW accused of mistreating American prisoners. FBI surveillance led to Kawakita’s arrest. Bruce, a WWII veteran and Lordsburg native, helped trace his car license.

Purcell Wins Damages Against Elephant Butte Boat Co

W. H. Purcell won a 225 dollar verdict in the local district court against Kenneth H. Mims doing business as Elephant Butte Boat Co for alleged boat conversion in June 1946. Attorneys E. Forest Sanders and Glen G. Hilford appeared for plaintiff and defendant respectively. A twelve member jury included William M. Beach Frank Freom Walter E. Dunagan Leo W. Parker wins Magnolia fishing trip to Creede Colorado

Mr. Alvin L. Parker returned Tuesday morning after two four day fishing trips in Colorado. He won the Magnolia Company contest open to jobbers and agents in Texas and New Mexico. The prize was the four day trip to Creede, Colorado.

Alumni dance at Central school Saturday June 7 drew large attendance. Red and white streamers framed the gym with a big 47 on stage curtain. Music supplied by Barney's orchestra kept the evening lively.

Pythian Sisters Welcome Grand Chief on Official Visit

The Pythian Sisters heard an engaging address by Grand Chief Mrs. Mary Pelzer of Albuquerque during her official visit Monday. She was accompanied by deputy Mrs. Anna Kretsinger of Belen. A banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Tip-to-Date Cafe preceded the regular meeting at the hall.

Mr and Mrs Charles Foglias with two children taught at the Young Peoples Christian camp on Cave Creek last week. American Legion establishes a Blood Bank in the community with Miss Lola Beavers as custodian. Dr. Fife and Harber Heather coordinated arrangements and said plasma will be readily accessible for emergencies. Proceeds support upkeep and aid for needy cases.
