Hen's Softball Schedule Sets First Round Matches

Suspect Charged in Home Entry Case

George Hector Aresti, 21, pleaded not guilty to aggravated burglary in a June 9 home entry at 425 EF, where a window screen was removed and Mrs Grace Littlefield awoke to a man kneeling by her bed before fleeing. He is held on 5000 bond pending a June 19 preliminary hearing.

Hidalgo General Hospital Nurses' Aide Class Graduates

Dr J F Nosal chief of staff spoke at Hidalgo General Hospital exercises for the first class of volunteer nurses aides trained at Lordsburg. Certificates were awarded by Dr J H Baxter as aides received white uniforms and lavender banded caps.

Little Theatre to Stage Two One Act Plays in June

The Little Theatre group resumes a two one act play program scheduled for June 20 after an earlier plan set June 13. The change shifts the performance date to a later weekend.

Lordsburg Council Passes Dog Control Ordinance

The Lordsburg City Council approved a dog control ordinance including vaccination registration quarantine and destruction provisions plus a dog pound and restraint rules. Vaccinators must collect a two dollar fee and dogs over five months must be vaccinated annually during January and February or upon acquisition. The full text will run in The Liberal next week.

Katharine Kate Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs L R Jones was chosen Lordsburg Sun Princess for the Sun Carnival in El Paso at New Year The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority was the only group to file a sealed envelope with the Chamber of Commerce Miss Jones 20 and a 1962 Lordsburg High School graduate is a junior at New Mexico State University majoring in Home Economics Education She earned multiple honors including prom queen and district first in the Make It With Wool contest with a state scholarship

Farm Bureau Directors to Meet in Flagstaff Arizona

New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau directors will meet with board members from Arizona and Nevada Farm Bureaus in Flagstaff Arizona June 15 16 17 at the Americana Hotel. AFBF officials Charles B Shuman Kenneth Hood and Woodrow Luttrell will speak. The talks aim to align Farm Bureau policies and organizational matters across the states.

Divided Highway Projects Bids Sought in Hidalgo County

The State Highway Commission called for bids to build 4.393 miles of two lane concrete highway from Lordsburg east to join the divider highway. A four lane divided highway will be formed from the Arizona New Mexico line to near Deming. Also bids for resurfacing 20.201 miles of the divided highway with asphalt concrete.

Kennecott Plant Tours Continue at Hurley New Mexico

Kennecott Copper Corporation operates summer plant tours of its Hurley mill and smelter in New Mexico. Tours run Mondays to Fridays at 9 30 a m from June 8 through August ending, for visitors age 14 and over, with two hour durations. No reservations needed. special groups may arrange alternate times.

Dockum Tonss II First Week Leads Little League Standings

Dockum Butane went 3-0 to top LL standings after the first week. June 4 saw Shell 3 CPS 0 and Dockum 6 St Josephs 4. June 8 had Dockum 10 CPS 9 and State Farm 4 Shell 3. Tuesday St Josephs beat CPS 8-5. Evening games start Friday for two weeks at 6:30 and 6:70.

Lordsburg seniors Lenora Wright Jeanne Hill and Beverly Altuna join New Mexico Girls State delegates on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. National Vice-Commander Harry Wright will address delegates with two Mexican guests from Mexico City assisting as representatives.

Elks Flag Day Observance Planned in Lordsburg

Plans are completed for a flag day observance Sunday June 14 at 3 p m at the Lordsburg Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler J F Houser says the National Guard will present the colors and the lodge is among more than 2000 Elk Lodges nationwide honoring the flag. Public invitation extended to attend.

City Officials Meet Highway Dept on Lordsburg By-Pass

City Council and State Highway Dept officials discussed a proposed by-pass for Lordsburg. Aerial photos from April 14 1964 outlined potential interchanges and routing from east of the port of entry, across Main Street, near the old hospital, and along the south side of the municipal airport with join points open for Council input. Surveys and detailed proposals were planned for two to three months, with possible Bureau of Public Roads participation if agreement is reached.

Lordsburg Man Faces Bank Robbery Trial in Albuquerque

Leon Anderson a six foot ten inch Black man stands trial in U S District Court Albuquerque for the October hold up of the First National Bank of Lordsburg. Witnesses include bank president N M Morrison Sheriff Leroy McCarty Police Lt Ivan Kennett and Hotel Hidalgo manager Vannie Fuller. The $924 taken from the bank was recovered on his person.
