Tragic Burglary Shock Hits Separ as Woman Is Wounded

In Separ New Mexico a burglar shot Mrs Rose Warren during a home invasion at the D D Warren residence. The assailant was beaten by Warren and his son after a struggle. Mrs Warren received multiple birdshot wounds and is recovering with hospital care. The attacker, identified as Al Jenson, is hospitalized in Silver City in serious condition.

Judge Ownby Recalls Early Southern Pacific Trip to El Paso

Lordsburg judge recounts riding the first Southern Pacific train to cross the El Paso bridge in May 1881. The two flat cars and engine carried about sixty men including bridge and steel crews under conductor Blackie Martin. He helped drive the last pile for the Rio Grande bridge as work on the Lordsburg to El Paso route continued.

Health dept urges diphtheria vaccination for preschoolers

The County Health Department advises parents of pre school children never immunized for diphtheria to consult their family doctors about vaccination during the summer. Immunity requires six to eight weeks after inoculation.

Vera Bea Higule, Lordsburg High School class of 1932, completed four years of college and earned an A. B. degree with a double major in Spanish and English from Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos Texas on May 26 1946. Grand Chief Ona Berry of New Mexico Pythian Sisters visited Western Star Temple No 11 in Lordsburg with family and Deming Temple officers. Secretary A Visitor Seeks Tuberculosis Survey Support

Ruth Connely of the New Mexico Tuberculosis Association spent the weekend in Lordsburg to advance a state led case finding survey with Maytag Laboratory and the Southwestern Presbyterian Sanatorium. The effort targets Hidalgo County students and funds from the Tuberculosis Seal Sale to curb rising deaths among college age residents.

Shirley Henslee To Resume School After Clinic Visit

Miss Verna Hancock county health nurse took Ming Shirley Henslee to the Socorro Clinic. Doctors determined the spine curvature was not tuberculosis but due to wedge shaped vertebrae. Dr. Goodwin of El Paso said a simple operation would correct the defects and Shirley could begin high school and music studies again after recovery.

The Reverend Bryan Hall preached his first sermon in Lordsburg replacing ill Reverend C. Walker.
