Cecilia Marruto, a 25 year elementary teacher in the Lordsburg School District, told the board she is retiring following her husband Henry’s recent retirement as Dugan Tarrange Middle School principal. No future plans disclosed. The board rejected two bids for an 1988 Suburban type bus after state officials discouraged such transport. Superintendent DeFoor noted summer upkeep includes painting and floor refinishing. Outdated surplus equipment was assigned to a Mexico school district.

Charles David Dunagan 26 a fourth generation Animas resident died May 28 1988 in Saskatoon Canada from an auto accident. Graveside services June 4 at Middle Animas Cemetery with Houston Moore and Billy Darnell presiding. He was born October 10 1961 in Silver City and worked in construction. Survivors include son James David and daughter Candice Dawn both of Animas, parents David and Billie Dunagan, Animas, two brothers Clint and Buster Dunagan, two sisters Doddie Conover and Mona Laupola, grandmother Margaret Dunagan, aunt Mary Price. Pallbearers were Clint Buster Dunagan Billy Darnell Bill Conover Tau Pai Laupola and Rick Opper. Baca's Heather Funeral Chapels in charge of arrangements.
