JH Grimes reports Lordsburg Mexico mine in the development stage with all income from concentrates used for royalties and operations. No dividends or officer salaries, copper prices await improvement to enable continued employment and production, with 95 255 tons milled and 9 432 tons concentrates sold.
Frances McFeeley new supervisor of the Department of Public Welfare joined Hidalgo County Welfare advisory committee for a June 6 meeting. Present were Mrs. Felix Gauthier Miss Eleanor O'Meara Miss Scofield and others. They reviewed last month’s cases, noting 191 families served and services ranging from old age and blind aid to WPA-related support.

Lloyd D. Fitts of Deming, rep resentative of the California Vegetable Oil Interests, visited Virden Friday to discuss growing peanuts and safflower for a new mill in Deming. Four hundred acres will be planted. test plots include flax, sunflower, safflower and soy beans. plan aims to foster new cash crops and import vegetable oil production locally.
County Superintendent Agnes Edington reports rural teaching staff for next year with assignments in Animas Rodeo Cloverdale Valley View Neblett and replacements for Winnifred Laham Snyder and others. Mrs Noble Kirkpatrick and her son Noble Jr and her brother Jack Willis left Monday for Kilgore and Cutler Texas to visit Mrs Leon Willis mother of Mrs Kirkpatrick. Mrs L B Robinson and daughter Betsy accompany them to Dallas to visit relatives. They will be gone for one month.
According to the telephone manager O Sculze the 16c extra monthly charge for French style hand sets will be removed on June 20. The same month will see ten new phones added to the exchange signaling growth and prosperity for the service.
The burning followed a W H Small building across the tracks, identified as Lordsburg’s first post office by Mrs John T Muir and Judge and Mrs B B Ownby. Mrs Ownby says R R Birk was the first postmaster in the 1880s when Lordsburg was a young town. If the late Postmaster Birk visited today he would be surprised.
Miss Lo Ree Kent wed Thomas R. Taggart in a June 4 ceremony at the bride’s Lubbock home. Attendants included Mme Sussanne Johnson and a large Texas Tech crowd. reception featured pink and white decor, a tiered cake, and a punch table. The couple likely honeymoon in Cloudcroft.
Warren Fuller arrives home from Austin where he attended the University of Texas studying Geology. He expects to finish in another year and has made a big hit in music there.
Mr and Mrs S M Chase are spending the week in Hot Springs with plans to visit local attractions and enjoy the spring spa offerings. The couple will tour the area and return later in the week.
Mrs. Ray E. Elms hosted a June 3 birthday gathering for John Keith at the Elma ranch, with numerous mothers and children attending. Sam Fulton and W. E. Holt attended to photograph the event while refreshments of ice cream iced tea and cake were served.
Mina Irene D Hagen daughter of John Hagen of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Frank F Flores a Tucson businessman were wed in the Hotel Hidalgo parlor at 1 30 PM Wednesday The ring ceremony was by J J Brimberry minister of Lordsburg Church of Christ Henry Dick served as best man Mrs N A Gammon was matron of honor Attendants included Charles V Fowler W M Scott A reception followed at the Hidalgo Grill and photos were taken in the patio The couple will reside in Tucson after their honeymoon
At a Monday meeting of the County Commissioners the registration boards for the several precincts were appointed. The names will be published in the official commissioners proceedings.
Miss Anita Clayton has returned to the Clayton ranch from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Tommy Jr has returned from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.
Lordsburg Hidalgo Library board met in the reading rooms on Monday afternoon with wide county representation led by Mrs. N. Tenney and others. The group urged patrons to send notes thanking donors and announced stricter checks and cataloguing for future book donations before shelving. Two new Book of the Month volumes were shown but kept unpublished until processing. Plans include longer tables for adult reading use and a scrap book of Hidalgo county news events to be contributed by local items.
Animas post hosts Le gionaires and Auxiliary members with drums and bugle corps performing. The group discusses funding a proposed American Legion home in Lordsburg and plans to send drum and bugle corps members to the state convention in Raton in August. A Fourth of July barbecue in Animas is scheduled as the next calendar event.

Hon and Mrs John T Muir brought to the chamber of commerce a rare sotdl in full bloom. The plant blooms only every seven years and is among the most beautiful desert plants when fully grown, with others arising from the roots.
The regular monthly meeting of the Cemetery Association will be held Tuesday June 14 at 7 30 p m at the home of Mrs A V Brown.
A pre nuptial tea shower and announcement party was given in the Women’s Club building for Miss Alice Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Felix Jones. Mina Bounds and Celia Fedrick hosted with assistance from Mrs Young Bounds and Mrs Matilda Jones.
In Hidalgo county the Banner Mine will continue to operate as many western copper mines close or cut back. The community relies on the mine as a major industry and its workers, more than the railroad, provide substantial employment across multiple departments.
County Treasurer W. D. Hall and family are on a two week vacation to Dallas. School Superintendent and daughter Raynette are traveling two weeks to Oklahoma. County Assessor Earl T. Brown Mrs. Brown and two younger children are on a month long visit with relatives in Colorado.
Mr and Mrs Basil Fuller travel to Minneapolis Minnesota where Basil will attend a business administration course at the University. They plan a temporary stop in Rochester Minnesota before reaching the campus on June 16.
Revenue officers M. C. Short and J. H. Woodside of the Internal Revenue Service investigators were in town Wednesday to review matters pertaining to the service.
At a special council meeting in City Hall Mayor Short appointed Sam Gass as Gas Dept superintendent and future electric and plumbing inspector. Frank Corbell becomes Water Dept chief and city building inspector with Claude Fuller as assistant. Police duties go to City Marshall Felix R. Jones, Levi Bradberry as night officer, Joe Sanches as special officer. Uniforms and badges ordered for officers. Fire Chief Harry Gale instructed to enforce ordinances. council vows businesslike governance.
Silver City has arranged with Director Mearna of the Municipal Hand to go to Deming to represent the Silver City rodeo on Sunday afternoon June 12. They will leave here right afternoon and arrive there at two o'clock. Communicate with Professor W Mearns or any band member if they can take one or more members. Professor Mearns and family were in Silver City Monday to complete arrangements with the Grant county chamber of commerce for their appearance in Deming Sunday and at the Silver City rodeo on July 2, 4 and 4.
Ramon Sanches, a high school pupil, underwent a complex appendectomy and is recovering well. Rudolph Mirnecke, a 60 year old mine watchman long known in the community, died after illness. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive. The remains were sent to his sister in San Antonio for burial.
The Sacremento Methodist Assembly began Monday in the Sacremento mountains, 26 miles southeast of Cloudcroft, four miles north of Weed at 7500 feet. The camp includes church cabins and dormitories, with a 600 seat dining room. Rev. Logan Hall leads the intermediates 12 to 16, Rev. P. M. Caraway heads the adults, and the young people 16 to 26 meet June 18. Lordsburg delegates, led by Henry Fuller and others, return tomorrow.

A new 4-H orchestra has been organized under Mrs T B Williams with Helen Cox elected president and Charles Crouch secretary treasurer. Members include Mary Francis Broun Martha Chavez Mary Dee Hindman Mary Rouse Oliver Lee Terry Williams Ray Pennington and Gladys Cox as the group discusses green and white uniforms.
Mr and Mrs Chip Pierce were in El Paso for the week, enjoying the city's sights and hospitality during their stay.
Judge Numa C. Prenger of Las Cruces heard the Luna county case moved from Deming involving Dr. M. L. Woodward versus Claud and Ernest Irwin. Judge Prenger dissolved a temporary restraining order and dismissed the damage suit, with defense counsel Sanders and Taggart representing the Irwins. In a related matter, Judge Prenger directed Forest Sanders to amend the complaint for Annie Eaton estate administratrix.
A surprise kitchen shower honored Miss Alice Jones on Friday at Mrs. Sam Gass home. Guests brought useful colorful kitchen utensils as gifts. refreshments included cookies and fruit punch. The couple plans a honeymoon in northern New Mexico after the ceremony and will reside in Las Cruces at a later date.
Plans anticipate over fifty guests from Silver City Deming and Lordsburg attending a Chuck Wagon dinner cooked by Pard Rogers. The Lordsburg Business and Professional Womans Club members and friends look forward to the event at the Muir ranch this coming weekend.
