Lordsburg Summer Band Program Opens July 6

The summer band program led by Mr Mor invites students to join from June ith Sition onward starting July 6. Free instruction on or cello offered by Mr Brandt. Beginners Band meets Mondays Wednesdays 130 and 5 band times listed. sessions run Tuesday Thursday and Monday Tuesday for other groups.

Four Facultyembers To Be At Convention In Portland

Mr and Mrs Wesley Freeburg named as delegates to the 94th annual NEA convention in Portland Oregon July 16. NEA, largest teachers organization with 750000 members, will host delegates from 48 states DC Hawaii Alaska and Puerto Rico. Continued on Page 5.

Polio Vaccine Now Available in Hidalgo County

Private physicians and the Hidalgo County Health Department offer poliomyelitis vaccine for children birth to 19 years and pregnant women. Immunization sessions on Wednesdays 1 to 3 PM on the Courthouse’s second floor, with appointments via phone. The vaccine shows 67 to 90 percent protection against paralytic polio in ages 5 to 10, and has undergone extensive safety testing by manufacturers and the U S Public Health Service.

Granny Bradberry lives to 93 in Lordsburg with strong health

Mrs Allen Bradberry known as Granny Bradberry celebrated her ninety third birthday last Thursday and is said to be the oldest living woman in Lordsburg. Amanda Arabella Simpson born May 31 1863 in Rock Creek Texas married Allen Bradberry August 30 1882 in Burnett Texas. The couple moved to New Mexico with Allen’s frontier family history and he hunted trapped and sold hides. The story notes her twin brother’s death and her status as last survivor of the Simpson family.

Swimming Pool Opens to Public with Attendance Records

The city pool opened last Sunday to the public in Lordsburg drawing 156 swimmers in the afternoon and peak participation of 179 during the day. Elbert Daniel, pool manager, announced weekday hours 1:00 to 7:15 PM and Sunday hours 1:30 to 7:15 PM with adults only openings evenings and a Monday closure.

CAP Cadets Head to Albuquerque for Encampment

Six Lordsburg Ow l Air Patrol Cadets depart from Lordsburg Municipal Airport bound for Albuquerque and Kirtland Air Force Base to attend the annual summer encampment. The group includes Mary Florence Baker Katy encer Keith Morris Marlon Eaton Sam Bishop and Darry Deaton. Darry Deaton has prior camp experience and commander Darry Deston recently returned from Washington D C after attending a Congressional Dinner as New Mexico's cadet representative.

Student trip to Grand Canyon details and impressions

Yvonne Martinez and four sponsors plus five Lordsburg High School students describe their May trip to Grand Canyon. They visit the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert, noting petrified logs and the colorful desert landscape as explained by scientists.
