Ena Mitchell Named of American Auxiliary

Ena Mitchell was named leader of the Robert Swan Unit No. 30 of The Legion at their meeting. She succeeds Saucedo who presided. Officers named include 1st vice president Mre, secretary Jetus Estrada, re-elected Williams, Mrs. W. F. Winters, Connie Saucedo, Mary Martinson. Delegates to the state convention in Artesia June 26 were Mitchell and Saucedo with Winters and Angelia Martinez. The auxiliary will hold a bingo Veterans Hospital event on June 16.

Bible School Set to Start June Ninth in Johnson County

Church plans a Bible school from June 9 to June 20 under the act Johnson. Children of Animal Valley aged 3 to 4 to juniors are invited to attend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, covering nursery, primary, first grades, and junior classes.

Nine Seniors Make Honor Trip

The nine seniors on the honor trip left Lordsburg at 6 am on Monday May 26 and visited St Johns Ariz Petrified Forest. They toured a museum learned how petrified logs formed from volcanic ash and silica deposits and viewed Agate Bridge and Newspaper Rock petroglyphs. The trip was arranged with thanks to W F Ritter Lumber Co and Ritter Walker Co.

Hurley Golfers Win Lordsburg One Day Tournament

Hurley golfers led by Jerry Decoste and Charlie Stretz won the team event 669 to 673 over Ft Bayard in a one day tournament in Lordsburg. Johnnie Burke of Ft Bayard captured medalist with 69, while Stretz won the consolation in the championship flight. Thirty nine golfers from Ft Bayard Hurley Lordsburg Dining and Silver City played and a Lordsburg Widows meal followed. The next tourney will be at Ft Bayard June 15 starting at 8 30 a m.

Pyramid Valley Named East of Lordsburg Farming Area

Farmers met last Saturday to name the new irrigated district east of Lordsburg Pyramid Valley. A Roads Committee was formed with Ethel Richins as chair and Ena Mitchell as secretary, and county commissioners pledged immediate aid to gravel bad road sections before the rainy season. Paul Huna and Jim Burdette also serve on the committee. Utility companies show strong interest as soil and wells attract expansion and development.

Border Patrol Pony League Heads Into Weekend Schedule

The Border Patrol Pony League plans two games this weekend with Bowie at 8 am Saturday and Deming at 3 pm Sunday at Shortfield. The district boys have two wins and two losses so far including a loss to Ft Bayard. no admission charged though a collection aids costs.

Feast of Corpus Christi Ceremony at St Josephs Church

St Joseph's Catholic Church will mark Corpus Christi with a 5 p.m. low Mass led by Father Andres Ponso, followed by a solemn procession around the church block from the church to Chester Street and 3rd to Animal Road, returning to 2nd Street. Eddy Camp Installed As Commander of Local VFW Post

Eddy Camp was installed as commander of VFW Post No. 3099 at a regular Thursday night meeting in El Charro Cafes private dining room. The event filled the vacancy left by Commander Frank Barka with RK as installing officer. Camp, a Lordsburg resident and Tower Café manager, was joined by Jim Kinkema and Robert Strong as delegates to the VFW state convention in Santa Fe June 6-8.
