N M S U Students Receive Awards at Commencement
John Ernest Browning and Gerald Thygerson of Lordsburg were among about 700 graduates at New Mexico State University’s annual commencement on Saturday May 28. Governor Jack M Campbell delivered the address at the Memorial Stadium exercises. Browning earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in agricultural business. Thygerson received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in range science and is a member of Alpha Zeta agrarian honor society. He is the son of Antone Thygerson of Duncan Arizona.

Grass Fire Northwest of Hachita Spreads 300 Acres
Las Cruces District BLM crews fought a grass fire about 2 miles northwest of Hachita on the Donaldson allotment Friday night May 27. Clem Donaldson reported the blaze. Local wind abatement rancher and county road support helped mop up. Cause undetermined as thunderheads and light rain cooled the area.
