County asks Lordsburg for added 30000 toward jail and patrol costs

Hidalgo County Commission Chair Fausto Noce told Lordsburg officials at a council meeting that the county seeks 30000 more from the city to help cover housing city prisoners and dispatching city police units. Sheriff Billy Darnell warned of potential 138000 budget cuts next year if costs rise.

City Engineer Warns Lordsburg on Discharge Plan by June 1

Larry Underwood, Lordsburg City Engineer, told the city council Tuesday night that the city must file with the state by June 1 a discharge plan for the 300 thousand gallons per day of uncontrollable sewer plant effluent. He explained the original plan to pump back to the airport is costly and illegal, while farming remains an alternative with many details to resolve.

Library Summer Reading Program Starts Friday

The Lordsburg-Hidalgo Library launches its 1989 summer reading program on June 2 at 1:00 p.m. Activities include dinosaurs like Iguanodon and Corythosaurus, fairy tales, character novels, non fiction facts, and a Readasaurus contest. Weekly Friday programs run 2 to 3 p.m. with guest appearances and prizes. The program encourages reading for fun for ages pre school to 8th grade. The Lordsburg Board of Education meets June 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School board room.

County Budget Approved for 1989 90 in Hidalgo County

Pool opens with limited hours and public meeting notices

The swimming pool is open Wednesday to Saturday with daytime hours 1:00 to 3:15 and 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. Night swimming is Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday night is adults only. The Animal School Board meets Tuesday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library. Agenda posted in area post offices. public invited.
