Soil Conservation Work Completed in Lordsburg Area

This week Robert E. Witherell and engineers completed a demonstration soil conservation project in several square miles of Lordsburg. The area will serve as a model for the southwestern region with structures to slow flood run-off and conserve moisture. Ranchers are urged to inspect and apply findings. questions can be directed to the Safford office. Witherell thanks Lordsburg for cooperation. his family will remain in Lordsburg while he returns to Safford.

The Senior YPS.C.E. initiated a winter Sunday program by forming a twelve member choir and singing well. The August program at the Palace Theatre features top attractions. "Boulder Dam" opens the month, followed by "Bohemian Girl" and "Charlie Chan at the Circus" on August 4 5 and 6. No Pledge Required for WPA Jobs Warns Official

Lea Rowland announced that no political pledge is needed to obtain or hold a WPA position. He ordered a Denver regional probe after claims that Valencia WPA workers were asked to sign pledges, warning of biased hiring as campaigns approach. He noted complaints from both parties about Democrats and Republicans receiving work, and stressed fair wages for needy citizens. Hollen Hotel Adopts New Ventilating System

Bil Burch completed a cooling upgrade on the upper story of the Hollen Hotel using natural ventilators to reduce temperatures by sixteen to eighteen degrees. The system, akin to government buildings, requires no machinery and allows closing vents in winter for normal warmth. Walter Sullivant has leased the hotel for ten years starting August.

Notable Recovery After Gunshot Incident

Mrs Rose Drysdale Warren and her sister in law visited from Separ to report her recovery from a severe gunshot wound. Doctors note fourteen bullets discharged from her body with about 75 to 80 remaining likely to stay. The wrist wound has healed and the last bullet is visible and removable if needed.

Death of Mrs Nancy M Jones in Lordsburg New Mexico

Mrs Nancy M Jones aged 74 years nine months died July 24 1936 at the home of her daughter Mrs J T Rouse in Lordsburg New Mexico. She leaves her husband J W Jones 78 five living children 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family moved to Lordsburg in April 1936 to reside with Mrs Rouse. She and her husband were married 58 years and were Baptist church members for 51 years. The remains rest beside her son in Pinon cemetery Pinon New Mexico.

Twenty seven members and guests joined a moonlit picnic twenty miles on the Silver City road. A mock wedding near the arroyo drew attention as a visiting lady and local businessman were involved. a coed tried Tarzan, a married woman received a bloody nose, and her husband was bruised the next day. Overall it was a delightful evening for all participants.

Miss Shirley Henslee Recovers Amid Warm Visitors

Health Officers Visit City Over Dumping Issue
