J. B. Moore is recuperating at home and a lame back temporarily took the sergeant off duty. Pvt. Lewkowitz has returned from a 15 day furlough in California and is now stationed at HQ mess hall. Colonel L. Ledbetter entrained for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma due to his mother's sudden illness.
Major and Mrs. F. K. Burker will occupy their new residence on Sixth Street Wednesday, marking a local housing milestone.
The War Finance Committee of the Eleventh Federal Reserve District issued a certificate of recognition to the wives of Lordsburg Army Officers for their role in supporting the Second War Loan Drive. April 12 and May 1 marked the drive. special credit goes to Mrs. F. F. Northman for her unselfish service.

Miss Judy Klement hosted a La Fiesta birthday dinner Thursday night for her sister Vera Klement of Deming. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Klement, James Klement, Mrs. Frank Vestal, Miss Frances Vestal, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Fisher, Mrs. Jack McGhee, Jackie, Miss Mary Louise Noce, and the guest of honor. Mrs. Fisher baked a birthday cake and gifts were presented to Vera Klement.
Mr and Mrs Coleman Dunker spent the weekend in Bisbee and returned home with their granddaughter Earline, daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Dunkerson.
Daniel Mendoza 21, son of Mrs Lusia G. Mendoza of Red Rock New Mexico, graduated from Kingman Army Air Field flexible gunnery school near Kingman Arizona. He joined the Army at Fort Bliss Texas on October 25 1942 and completed ground school ballistics sighting turret maintenance range estimation and aircraft machine gun training before two weeks of firing and receiving gunnery wings.
The U S S Treasurer through its Secret Service Department and Chambers of Commerce nationwide is promoting a campaign to curb forged U S warrants and private checks. Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce has engaged with Rowland K Goddard, treasury agent for District 13, urging banks and merchants in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah and Wyoming to imprint the slogan Know Your Endorser on all checks. The agent praised the Lordsburg chamber for its effectiveness.

Mrs Willie Bower of El Paso is recovering well after a major operation on July 12. She had been very seriously ill but is now reported to be getting along nicely.
Walter deBoury counselor from the Swiss Legation in Washington Dr K R Roth and C Irvin Plitt of the State Department visited Lordsburg Camp to inspect internment operations and gather information for governments in Berlin and Washington They praised the reception and camp treatment and planned further tours to nearby camps before returning to the capital They noted shipments to the Philippines and potential prisoner exchanges uplifting local families and collected mineral specimens for Berne museum from the Banner Mine in New Mexico.
Mr and Mrs A B Bowman and their two sons departed Saturday to spend a vacation with relatives and friends in Utah.

Dr. J. H W. Baxter will begin a standard Red Cross First Aid course at City Hall on Tuesday evening August 3 at 8 o clock. All interested are invited to attend.

Twenty one UNM alumni in the armed forces are reported killed including seven in action in Asiatic waters Atlantic and Europe and six in Japanese prison camps. The tally of prisoners of the Axis reaches 33 and twelve are missing in action. Total alumni in services 970, about one third of the total. V-12 and Army Air Corps training will add 700 names. credits earned apply to degrees and many Navy students will receive degrees at the university.

Mrs James Cureton departed Monday for Fort Benning Georgia to join her husband in officer training school. He expects a permanent duty station once he earns his commission.
