Mrs. Mary Lee Fairly and her children Marilynn and Orran, along with P. M. McInnis and daughter Dorothy, visited Lt. and Mrs. E. F. Quillen for a 1 o'clock dinner at the Officers Club Sunday. Mr. McInnis expressed interest in a dish and sought the recipe for later recreation.
Mrs J Carp entertained children of officers and wives with a musical rhyme party on Monday afternoon. The host Burton Carp and nine children were featured as movie reels captured the play while mothers joined in singing. Chocolate milk and cookies were served.
Mrs Frank Bacon has joined the nurses staff at the L I C hospital and received a welcome from all.
Mrs Eva Braden resumes work at the hospital after a vacation visiting her son in Dallas her mother in Blossom and friends in Paris Texas.
Mrs W P Churchill presided at a luncheon in honor of Mr Stork who plans a bundle from Heaven for Lt and Mrs H Traylor. Gifts impressed guests as Mrs Traylor’s voice and hands highlighted the occasion. An all white table featured lace vine shasta daisies and snap dragons. Assistants included Mrs J O Safford and Mrs E F Quillen.
Earl McKeehan field scout executive spoke at the Methodist church Sunday presenting the charter for Troop 121. He traced Scouting history, noted its role in national service and cited Duty To God as a core Scout value before a troop committee and new membership cards were issued to Rev. F. R. Poage and others.
Two year old Jackie McGhee celebrated with a party hosted by her mother. Guests included Jo Alsbury Jackie Galusha Bobby Dolores Joe Hudgens Harriet Merritt Bobby Kerr and Meppie Phillips with each child accompanied by a mother. Games ice cream punch and cake were served and story books were favorites.
Rev. B. A. Burge of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City came with his son Lt. T. H Burge of the Canadian Scottish Infantry in Victoria B C for a Tuesday visit. A third son serves in the Canadian Army.

Mrs Pearson of Tucumcari is visiting her daughter Mrs Paul Hudson and her son in law Mr Hudson, staying for a planned visit.
The luncheon featured creamed potatoes, baked spam with pineapple, hot rolls, jellied salad, plum marmalade, iced tea and coffee, and Lady Baltimore cake. After gifts, lime and orange iced drinks were served in frosted glasses. Nurses of L. I. C. presented a War Stamp book for the future citizen “Butch.” Ladies included Mes dames Burker, Safford, Batch, Ellis, DeCamp, Crews, Quillen, Northman, Carp, Erisman, Smart, Dater, Kenny, Stelle, Brown, Lt. Linn, Mrs. Braden, Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. H. Taylor, and hostess Mrs. W. P. Churchill.

Mrs J J Arbelbide died in Compton California after six weeks illness. Funeral held in Tara Marion Egon born in San Francisco grew up in Lordsburg married J J Arbelbide about thirty five years ago and lived in Redlands Los Angeles. Survived by husband two sons Ollie My and Garrett W parents Dr and Mrs J G Egon brother Ronald of Phoenix three granddaughters Stella Marcia and Mary Jane. Also notes of S H Gases vacation and relatives visiting in Yeleta Texas.
Mrs Mary Lee Fairly and T J Mayfield attended the Institute on Professional and Public Relations of Teachers at New Mexico State Teachers College in Silver City Monday. Mr Mayfield led the afternoon session as about twenty business and professional women spoke on various subjects.
Hidalgo County Republicans met Saturday evening and chose their officers for the county organization. John L. Augustine was named County Chairman with Mrs. J. C. Wright as vice chairman and Mrs. J. H. Clark as secretary-treasurer. State Central Committee members are J. B. Culberson and Edward Altuna. The State Central Committee will convene next Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque.
The U. S. 0 committee held its regular meeting last Thursday in the hall. Routing plans were discussed and improvements for the hall and for entertainment of men in uniform were approved. Mrs. Moselle Messecar presided with Adj. Glaeser present and officers named.
A note to Mrs. John T. Muir references items from 1895 1896 and a 1897 98 school records clipping sent by Jake Arnett formerly Jack of Su Arizona. The letter notes a friend shared the clipping and mentions 1895 96 era items of local interest.
Frank R. Coon a former Federal Reserve Board member and past president of the New Mexico Bankers Association died at 74. He organized the First National Bank of Lordsburg in 1907, led Mimbres Valley Bank in Deming, and mentored regional banking. Funeral services were held in Deming with Masonic rites and floral tributes. remains cremated in Albuquerque.
Lt. and Mrs. Myles Cohen returned to duty after visits to Deming and Silver City and a Camp Childyne stay in Oakdale Louisiana. A Sunday Cave Creek picnic was held with Sgt. Charlie Foxworth Mrs. Jack McGhee and several others in the group.
Russell Walters and Carl Lang of Animal were home last week from the Naval Training Station at San Diego California on furlough. On their return they will go to San Francisco.
Mr and Mrs Roy Clark and daughter Mrs Evelyn Watters of Picacho Arizona traveled Tuesday toward Santa Rita to meet the two Clark grandchildren born since they left town years ago.
Two automobiles stolen at Saf ford Arizona and Las Cruces New Mexico have been recovered in Lordsburg by State Patrolman John Bradford.

Frank Cheney identifies the deceased as his brother Will Cheney, who had planned a hunting trip in Lake Valley with friends. No suspect is named and no inquest held. Local residents tied to cattle sales, jurors, and railway crew changes are also mentioned.
Lightning damaged the Chase residence as a severe storm blew out the dining room flue and chimney and knocked out electric lights and telephone service. No one was injured.
Allan L Poage son of Rev and Mrs F R Poage completed three months at Camp Lee Virginia and was graduated and commissioned a Second Lieutenant July 16 He was assigned to the Air Corps in Sacramento California and expected home for a brief furlough before further duties.
El Paso Natural Gas Co established a construction office at Ellison's Court for a project to build about 60 miles of 6 48 and 6 and 5 8 inch natural gas lines paralleling existing pipes. The work, employing around 60 men, will loop lines to add capacity for the Phelps-Dodge Corp copper camelier at Morenel Arizona. The company supplies gas to copper producers in New Mexico and Arizona and serves steel plants military sites and communities in Texas and Arizona.
A buffet supper was given at the home of Mr and Mrs Harry Rosenstein to honor Lt and Mrs Myles Cohen. Attendees included Mr and Mrs J A Lasalle, Mr and Mrs J M Pisher, Mr and Mrs Charlie Foxworth, Mr and Mrs J W Borrus, and several others.
Tom Mayfield a large government contractor from Lordsburg visited Silver City Monday and served as a lunch host and headliner at the Teacher's Institute program.
The Lac Cruces Sun-News reports the marriage of Dr. H. H. Conder of Lordaburg to Hazel Benson of Marathon Iowa. The ceremony occurred last summer and many friends extend congratulations as New Mexico welcomes Iowa.
Miss Maxine Wakefield of Prescott Arizona is visiting Miss Mildred Hill. The two met in New York while both were on a missionary tour for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The New Mexico Extension Service announces a statewide food preservation training event. Minx Travis N. Hughs, Grant county Home Demonstration Agent, will lead a session July 27 at 1 30 p m in the Lordsburg Woman's Club. Demonstrations include pressure cooker canning of meats and vegetables, hot water bath canning of fruits and tomatoes, and drying of fruits and tomatoes. Attendees advised to bring pressure gauge for testing.

A Carlisle boy driving toward Duncan picked up two soldiers in uniform. They knocked him out beyond the Silver City junction, robbed him of cash and papers, and left him for dead. A Duncan man alerted officers. sheriffs broadcast led to the culprits' capture in Saf ford.
Tom B Gee a prominent El Paso cattle trader and his wife have bought a home in Pass City and will move there early next month after selling their northwest ranch to Sherwood Culberson who takes possession on vacating day. The Gees are highly regarded citizens and their departure is deeply felt.
The Bailey sisters learned their nephew Joe Hannan, a sister's boy, is a German prisoner. The word came via short wave radio.
H. G. Rountree departed on vacation last Friday and will be joined by Mrs. Rountree and their son. They plan to visit relatives across Texas and will return together.
