The American Legion lays groundwork on donated land near the airport with a plan for a hut to serve as the center of social and patriotic life in Lordsburg. Donors include Jack Heather Eu Montague Bob Reynolds and T Short.
The Lordeburg Lions Club gathered for its midday meeting with President Banks Austin and vice president Alton Powell absent. Secretary and treasurer presided as Harry Galusha discussed a Dallas trip for the chamber of commerce and Simon Ikied spoke on the New Mexico Foundation Corporation. Fausto, once absent long, recounted years of captivity in a Japanese prison camp. Twenty members attended and enjoyed a lunch served by Harold Bishop and land Cress.
A luncheon and bridge session was hosted by Mr. Tom Clayton on Tuesday at one o'clock. The attendees included Mrs. Carl Frymeyer of Silver City, Mrs. Isaac Van Meter, Mrs. Fulton of El Paso, and the host.
Tony Alvarez and Evangelina were married last Saturday. The groom attended LHS and played in the school band. He is a Navy veteran who served many months on a transport vessel across the seas.
The Southwestern Chamber of Commerce Institute in Dallas July 14 20 drew over 300 students from eleven western states. New Mexico groups in Roswell Artesia Tucumcari and Raton were highlighted as Roswell previously had the state’s only secretary attendee. The Chamber board met Monday and approved a draft by law set to be presented August 19 for adoption along with future work and advertising plans.
Mrs Iva Cram and Floyd Lee Maddox wed in Virden on July 19 with Bishop Mortensen presiding. Witnesses were Mrs Minnie Hardin and Mr and Mrs Holmes Maddox. The groom is the youngest son of Holmes and Mrs Maddox of Animas. the bride worked as a beauty operator in Kanab, Arizona. they left for Jacob Lake Utah where the groom ranches.

Mrs R V Traylor, vacationing with her mother Mrs Oney Raymond at Tinnie New Mexico, left Friday by plane for Albuquerque to spend the weekend with her husband who is pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of New Mexico.
Mr and Mrs George Haltom Sr took Mrs George Haltom Jr to Las Cruces Sunday for a day trip. George Haltom Jr came from El Paso to accompany the family home.
Mr and Mrs P M Melinnig return from El Paso where Mrs Melinnis had traveled to Temple Texas with Ima Fairly who is at the Clinic. Fairly will stay a while longer. Melinnig met Mrs Melinnis in El Paso on Friday.

County Agricultural Conservation Committees will gain power to tailor the 1947 Agricultural Conservation Program to local conditions. Director C V Hemphill said committees may select a sound water and soil conservation practice meeting local needs even if not in the national outline. The change aims to shift from wartime production practices to long term agricultural value.
Government price controls lapse increases need for closer cooperation among government civic groups and the food industry, especially in distribution. PMA Administrator Robert Shields told New York City Pool Advisory Committee members that more power in lives demands responsibility and that government allocation and rationing cannot do the job alone in shortages.
Bureau of Agricultural Economics economists say higher prices won’t increase overall food available for civilians unless exports are cut. A price rise would mainly shift distribution of supplies among regions and income groups rather than boost total output.

Angie Parker, previously hospitalized with an infected throat, has returned home to recover. The patient was treated and released from the facility.
Miss Handy Hill visits Miss Sandra Day for two weeks in El Paso. Mrs. Helen Holt Fulton stays a week with her father. K Gass of Inleta Texas visits the Sam Gass home. Buddy Brown travels to Tempe to undergo the esin ic. Mr and Mrs Fred Purcell of Vlagetaff Arizona visit Aunt Anna Ownby. Purcell is a cousin of the late Uncle Bramble Ownby. Aunt Anna enjoys the pleasant surprise.
About fifty attend the Pythian Sisters initiation held Monday evening at the Lodge Hall. Initiated members include Mrs. Evelyn Willis Mrs. Cora Kirby and Mrs. Ernestine McHaffey. Ice cream and cake were served after the meeting.

Eloisa Ruiz and Ramon Sanchez were married on Monday in a ceremony marking two LHS alumni. Eloisa, graduate of LHS class of 1946, and Ramon, also an LHS attendee and Navy veteran, served many months in the Pacific.
Miss Helen Chase returns from a lengthy stay on Balboa Island California with her sister Mrs. R B Wheeler. She reports her mother will remain in California for a longer period before returning home.
