Deming Little Leaguers Win District Tournament

The Deming Little League All Stars escaped the losers bracket to win the District Tournament in Lordsburg. After losing to Copper All Stars early, Deming beat them 11 1 to set up a final against Grant County, then held on for a 7 6 victory ending with a double play. The Luna County team advances to Roswell this weekend. Also, the Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber board will meet Wednesday at 11:00 AM for a Dutch treat luncheon at Kranberry's Family Restaurant. all members and interested parties are welcome.

Lordsburg Chief cites ignored child restraint laws

Lordsburg residents routinely disregard the Child Safety Seat Laws, says Police Chief John McDonald. State law and City Ordinance 12-6-13.12 authorize a $50 ticket for violators when a child is unrestrained, and officers may pull over drivers if a child is not properly restrained. Nonuse of seatbelts and child seats can establish probable cause under New Mexico law.

Kids under 11 must use a car seat or seatbelt. Infants under one year ride in a federally approved car seat. Ages one to five require a restraint or back seat belt. Ages five to ten must wear a seat belt in any seat. Officers issue citations for nonuse of child safety seats. Top violations: no insurance, no seatbelt, and failure to secure children in safety seats.

Hidalgo County Fair Parade Set For August 27 Theme

The Hidalgo County Fair Parade will start at 10 00 AM on August 27 with the theme Once Upon A Time In Hidalgo County. Joanna Lopez Chamber Director invites businesses churches civic groups and families to portray a nursery rhyme fairy tale or real Hidalgo County event. The Liberal will run updates on parade progress before the event.
