Two Junior Softball Games Highlight Evening Action

Lyall Dies After Short Illness at 67 in Lordsburg

Lyall born 1886 at Sulphur Valley near Douglas died Friday July 15 1954 in Lordsburg after a brief illness. He married Bob Rogers June 29 and lived on a ranch in Letful Canyon. Survived by wife and many nieces and nephews, services held at two o clock at the Chapel with Rev. Bras officiating.

Don Johnson Wins All Expense Trip for Hotpoint Sales

Donald Johnson, manager of CPS Co in Lordsburg, is one of three winners in the Gorman Enginering Co district sales contest for Hotpoint appliances. The prize is a Yellowstone National Park vacation with round trip plane fare for two, food, lodging, and incidentals. Don and his wife plan the trip but have not set dates.

Playground Program Set To End This Week At School

The summer playground program supervised by Paul Probert of the high school faculty ends Friday July 34. Indoor activities in the gym run 9 to 11 and 2 to 4 with two sessions daily. About 32 boys attend, choosing activities like wrestling table tennis basketball and other indoor games.

Steps Taken To Relieve Drought In New Mexico

The New Mexico drought threatens ranchers as the normal rainy season fails to appear. The Drought Committee proposes a six point program including hay feeds grains pellets and cakes dairy and livestock support plus reestablishment of seven counties on drought disaster lists and revised eligibility. The plan seeks resumption of the buying program with tighter timing to curb speculation.

Savings Bonds Sales Rise in Hidalgo County and Statewide

Hidalgo County residents invested 3606.25 in United States Savings Bonds in June, with BE bonds making up 606.2 percent and H bonds 1000. New Mexico bought 874147.83 in bonds statewide, including 134500 in H bonds, the largest H bond total in state history aside from January. National June sales reached 392,447,000 in BE and H bonds, the highest in nine years and 15 percent above last June.
