Worshipful Master William L. Miller announced the annual Grand Lodge Workshop to be held Sunday afternoon at Mimbres Lodge Temple. Attendees include officers from Silver City Hurley Santa Rita Tyrone Deming Mimbres and Lordsburg with registration opening at 1 pm. Grand Master George O Thorne and Grand Lecturer Ronald A Brinkman will attend.
S Virgil Jones says applications for a special elk and antelope hunt are available at the Game Department office in Las Cruces and at southwestern license vendors. Those without a permit last year except bow permits are eligible. Elk unit 3 c must be in by 190 am December 7 1964, others by 10 am August 10 1964. Include a check or money order payable to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. Do not send cash.
Lordsburg High School cheerleaders sponsor a car wash Saturday July 18 at Sarge's Shell Jim's Conoco and Shell Truck Stop. Inside and outside washes cost 1.59 dollars and proceeds fund the camp for the cheerleaders, with tickets sold by the squad.
Two men Glen George and John Bryant were fined 50 or 10 days in jail on two counts each after attempting to steal gas from a local truck on 13th Street. Patrolmen Richardson and Gale caught them en route from California to Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. They admitted taking gas from a Irby Construction Co truck parked by the old hospital on Main Street. Both are serving a 20 day jail sentence in lieu of the fines.
About 700 New Mexico school bus drivers will attend their 23rd annual institute at Western New Mexico University from August 3 to 7. CB Lemon directs the program with Carl Whittemore assisting. Classes run morning and afternoon with evening events, including a get acquainted party, a roadeo, a picnic, and an awards assembly to close the week.
LULAC Council No 498 sponsors a Tardeada at Del Norte Park on Sunday July 26 with a taco dinner sale starting at 1 p.m. and delivery orders via Saucedo's Food Market. The event features music by the Latinaires and games, plus a 4 to 9 p.m. dance at the C W O Hall with the Latvianes performing.
Majorettes invite the public to a summer twirling program on the high school patio Thursday evening July 23. They will demonstrate new skills learned at the Sunshine Music Camp in Portales this summer.
The New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau will hold its annual commodity conference July 20 at the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque. Farmers and ranchers will discuss wheat and cotton policies, farm labor, feed grains, beef and lamb imports, dairy issues, and pesticide use to shape policy for the fall convention in Carlsbad.
Ra. T. Bobby Reynolds resigned June 30 as Brand Inspector for the Cattle Sanitary Board of New Mexico, effective July 15. G. L. Tucker succeeds him as inspector, Reynolds had served as Deputy Brand Inspector 1953 1955 then Inspector of District No. 16 until resignation. Tucker came from Clovis to assume duties. they reside at 306 South Main.
Dockum maintains first in Little League after splitting two with Shell Oilers last week. Shell won 7 5 on Monday after Dockum thumped them Friday. State Farm dropped two games to St Joseph and to C P S S. Pony League saw LULAC beat Gay Lumber 10 0 and Lumbermen win 7 2. Babe Ruth beat Santa Rita 5 2 with Tinker Murray four hit outing and LaMarea homering and tripling.
Hidalgo County 4 H boys and girls earned eight high point individual honors at the South West District contests in Silver City on July 10. Gold medals went to Shirley Hitson Grant Nelson for public speaking. Michael Jones for electric and tractor demonstration. Debra Payne for clothing demonstration. Dorothea Reed for foods demonstration. Debra Mortensen Janice Merrel Donna Richardson and Gwen Youngblood for Home Economics judging. Helen Reed for Jumper dress. Vicki Brisco for sports wear. Other placings included Randy Thygerson Mike Payne Ricky Walter Mike Mortensen Cynthia Thygerson Gayle Jones Vicki Jensen Thelma Vaughn Gail Strawn. Hidalgo County 4 H'ers won eight of thirteen contests.
